    1. [mogentry] H. H. Walters' Diary #69
    2. Lori
    3. 1889 The winter was short and very mild and the summer was rather cool. Crops were good, as the rainfall was sufficient and not enough to do injury. My family spent the winter in Stanberry and came to Amity in the spring. It became evident that the hardware business in Amity would not give employment to both Edward and myself and I secured my old situation it McFall. We rented a house of Samuel Stephens but gave possession again on July 1st as he had sold out in the meantime. We staid at my mother's until Aug. 10, when we went to Stanberry. I attended the Institute at Albany for two weeks. Leaving my family at Stanberry, I began my school work at McFall in September. Before Christmas, my brother-in-law, E. F. Lilly bought the hardware stock of the Lewis Bros. at McFall. I assisted in the invoice and boarded with them after they moved down. Previous to this, I had been stopping with F. M. Gist's. On Dec. 16th, my brother and I dissolved partnership. I may continue teaching for some time, but I expect to engage again in the hardware business. Owing to the helpless condition of my wife's father, my family must remain in Stanberry for the present. At no time in life have I found myself more influenced by circumstances over which I have no control. Jan 5, 1890. ++++++++++++ Pasted in the lower right-hand corner is a newspaper clipping: "Notice of Dissolution" Amity, MO Dec. 16, 1889. There's a short paragraph giving details. I believe Edward Walters continued with this hardware store until his death in or around 1935. Ephraim Fisher remained in that condition until his death in 1896. A few months prior to his death, he was moved to Asylum #2 in St. Joseph, MO.
