I know there were two Osborn families in the area early on. Mine, Samuel and Rebecca Osborn settled in the area about 1825 or so, they had 5 children, many (but not all) of my Osborns were gone from Gentry county by 1875.

    2. LiRae Sullins
    3. Posted on: Gentry County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/Gentry/10366 Surname: FARR ------------------------- Okay, From what I have heard, my ggrandfather Farr was not a very moral person. His wife was Maude Lura Burroughs and they had eight children. Ellsworth (as he was known) b. 1881 Gentry Co., MO d. 1934 St. Joseph, MO and Maude b. 1883 Gentry Co., MO d. 1958 Gentry Co., MO. Does anyone around Atlanthus Grove and Stanberry remember any stories about him? I'm trying to find out about the Indian woman that he brought home and slept with, right in the same house that my ggrandmother lived in with their children. The stories I've heard say that he left ggrandma and the kids to fend for themselves. He was gone a long time and when he came home he brought with him an Indian woman, that he openly slept with, and two or three small children. This woman stayed around a year, then one day put the kids on the horse she came on and led it away. I'm to understand they never heard of her again. Now, this is the big problem...who was she? What tribe? WERE THOSE CHILDREN ELLSWORTH'S? (He did this in like the 1920's.) Any other family know of this story? It's been handed down through mine as long as I can remember. He and Maude were both part Indian...not that that has any bearing on this. Was this a custom in the woman's tribe? Was he trying to live like his mother's grandmother's (Sally Groom) people and have more than one woman in his "teepee" (if it was that tribe's custom)? What was his mother's grandmother's tribe? Any and all help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. LiRae

    3. I was wondering if anyone happens to have "Gentry and Worth County History 1882". I had borrowed it through interlibrary loan last year and made some photocopies of my family names. The bottom of page 837 got cut off when being copied. All I need is the last sentence for Rufus Stanton. Mine leads off with: "In the winter of 1842 Rufus accompanied..." If someone has this book, would you mind typing that last sentence that I'm missing? I do have the next page that continues his sketch. Thank you, Felicia
