am new to the list and am a descendent of Daniel C. Crider. I believe my greatgrandfather A.J. "Jack" Smith may also have come from Gasconade county but I am looking for confirmation of that. The 1880 census in Webster county says his father was born in Tennessee and his mother in Missouri. Jack Smith was born in Missouri 2 Nov 1846. I am assuming his parents were married (probably in Missouri) before 1846. My mother says that A.J. stands for Andrew Jackson Smith and his father's name was George. I have a great deal of information on Daniel C. Crider and Elizabeth Reed (she died in Gasconade county between 1847 and 1850) and they were married there in 1826. Their daughter Isabelle Crider married John Henry Durbin in 1850 and moved to Webster county before migrating to Blanco county Texas. Their daughter Isabelle Catherine Durbin married A.J. "Jack" Smith in Webster county in 1874. I have looked in Webster county for a Smith family at the relevant time but none fit the criteria. I am hoping that Jack and Isabelle Catherine met in Gasconade county where she was born and spent part of her youth. Any information on Jack's parents would be greatly appreciated.
