Margaret: Try istg.rootsweb.com or lifesanswer.rootsweb.com. there are a bunch of immigration ships/passenger lists, that a couple of gals decided to put on the internet to help themselves & others find their ancestors much easier. I found out about it thru a rec' article in an AARP newletter we always get via snailmail. I ran across an idea recently I wish I had known about when my mother was alive. Type up all the family questions you would like to have answered, cut into strips so that each strip of paper has one question. Place all the strips into a memory box (or jar), and give it along with a bound notebook and a pen to the oldest member of your family. Ask them to write the answer to the questions in the notebook over a period of time. It is not such an overwhelming task when it is taken one question at a time, and when all the questions are answered, you will have a notebook full of family memories, handwritten by a family member. The person who does the answering will have a wonderful time remembering all the events written down in the book. I am new to this list, and I am interested in finding any info on a David E. Cowen Sr. or an Adam Cowen in this area between 1830 and 1860. David was my Great-great-great-grandfather, I am hoping to find out what relation Adam might be. Any help I can get will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Esta Corene Russell esta714@aol.com

John, Thanks. I believe Osage was formed from Gasconade in 1841. What road would Fredericksburg be on so I can pinpoint it on the map? Geraldine ----- Original Message ----- From: "John T. Hello List, I have reached a brick wall on my great grandmother (Elizabeth LUGORS or it may be LUCAS, hope you can help by checking the marriage transcripts for me. I really would like to know who her parents were. Elizabeth was married to William Wetlock. Here is what I have on them so far. When they arrived in Central Missouri, they settled in Gasconade County and lived for a few years. William's mother died there in the 1860s and most of his youth was spent in Gasconade County. (I have never been able to find anything on William's mother except she is listed on the 1870 census as Sarah Wetlock) Cira 1874, he married Elizabeth Lucors and by 1875, they had moved into Miller County. In 1875, William and Elizabeth came to the old town of St. Elizabeth, located on the east bank of the Osage river, and he opened a general merchandise store in the new town. He also served as its postmaster with the post office located in his general store. He served as postmaster from 1877-1885 and another stint from 1888-1893. William Wetlock bought many parcels of land in the old town of St. Elizabeth after the death of its founder, Owen Riggs. Evidently he had a hope that the town would survive and his mercantile business would continue to thrive. But the town could not pull itself from the ashes and many moved inland from the river town and located at the new town, Charlestown, which sprang up after 1880. William opened another store in Charlestown (today's St. Elizabeth) and tried to run businesses in both towns. In 1883, he paid taxes on merchandise owned at both locations. On March 8, 1884, William Wetlock and his business partner, Owen R. Pendleton, presented an application to the Miller County Court requesting a license to keep a wine and beer house at their stand in Charlestown. After they paid a state tax of $15, county tax of $10, state revenue tax 40 cents, county revenue tax 45 cents, and road revenue tax 5 cents, their license was granted and they were in business for the next 12 months. William and Elizabeth (Lucors) Wetlock were parents of 6 children, but 4 of these died as infants. Any help will be appreciated. Judy in Indiana
Judy you are WONDERFUL!! Thank you so VERY much. If you ever need anything from Callaway or Audrain Counties let me know. Geraldine
Hi: Found a Samuel Corwin married Polly Miller, Gasconade County, Missouri 15 July 1825, Book A Page 9. I don't expect anyone to give me a list of MILLER marriages before 1851, (which is what I would really like) but I would really appreciate finding an Unknown female MILLER marrying an Unknown CORVIN before 1851. Their MILLER line stems from Henry & Mary MILLER on the 1840 census & Henry dies in Osage Co. later. This female MILLER & Isaac are both children of Henry & Mary. I'm sure they had other children but I don't know the names at this point. If anyone has any additional information on this MILLER family I would appreciate knowing. Thanks. In the Gasconade County Cemetery Survey of 1985, Section 10, T42N, R5W, there is a Thomas McKinney born 1887, died 1956 in Row 3; Lot 7, and a Millie McKinney (no birth or death dates listed for her) Row 3; Lot 8 of New Salem Cemetery.
Hi, First I want to thank those on the list that answered my 1860 census question. Everyone was very helpful. Next, does anyone have any information on Bailey's Creek? I think it is a regiment that served in the Civil War from this county. I know that some Brims and McKinneys served in Bailey's Creek and they were from Gasconade Co. Am looking for information on Thomas Brimm who died in the Civil War. His wife lived in Gasconade Co. with her family on the 1860 census. Thank you in advance for all your help. Sandy
