I got a copy several years ago from: Lois L. Puchta, Treasurer Gasconade Co. Historical Society P. O. Box 131 Hermann, MO 6504l M. McManus
Does anyone know if those maps are still available, and where?? Thanks to all of you for the information. I'm sending a letter out to Roy Brockman tomorrow morning. I pulled out the 1875 Gasconade County plat map that I've had for a few years and compared it to the Canaan map in the Gasc. Co. Cemetery Survey book and was able to locate where Hibler's Prairie is. It is in Section 10, T42N, between Hwy 19 and Piezuch Road, probably close to where Old Salem Cemetery is located. Ellie, I think we are probably related on the Stites side, as well as through the Mahanay side. Milton Hibler's father was John Steitz (also spelled Stites) Hibler. He was the son of Samuel Hibler and Rebecca Steitz. On the old 1875 plat map there is a property owned by a J.T. Stites. This is probably your direct ancestor and possibly related to Rebecca. If anyone knows of any interesting landmarks in the part of the county north of the area between Owensville and Rosebud, please let me know so I can add them to my list of places and things to see. Do you know if any of the old homesteads are still standing or still inhabited? Thanks again, Derelys

Has anyone on this list heard of this and maybe know where it is? Derelys >> Dear Derelys: Hope you have good weather for the trip... I have heard of all the names and places you mention above.. It is near my childhood home. I know of a contact, a descendant of Benjamin Mahanay's and his 2nd wife, Martha Spalding, a triplet whom he married after the death of Carolyn Cason. The contact is a great grandson of Benjamin and Martha if you are interested. Martha was a sister to my great great grandmother, Mary Lara Ann Spalding Stites (also a triplet). I did have the snail mail address of a descendant of Benjamin & Carolyn's who lived south of Ft. Worth... but not sure I have it now. Benjamin & Martha went to Arlington, TX not long after they married. Back to the cemetery. Yes it is on private property. I am not sure who owns it now. perhaps someone on the list can help us. I did have the extraction of all cemetery tombstones from that cemetery long before it was recorded for the cemetery book. I do have the info here somewhere... with descriptions as to who some of the people were.. The info was recorded and notes made by the granddaughter of the Stephen Spaldings.. mentioned below. I have family buried in that cemetery including the parents of the triplets and a few of their siblings. The parents were Stephen Spalding (retired military from Ft. Snelling, MN) and his wife, Margaret Barclay Spalding. Stephen was b. 1774 in Massachusetts and Margaret in Pittsburgh, PA ca. 1803. One of their son's was a county politican. He has children buried near Canaan, MO... in an old church cemetery.. not sure of the name of the church. The Hibler's and Price's, (both in the cemetery) intermarried into my family.. and yes, there was a Hibler's Prairie.. My father used to talk about it, but I don't know where it is exactly.. someone else may know!!.. Good Luck! Ellie S. EllieSS@aol.com

It means will was probated while court was in recess. Probably handled by Clerk of Court and then presented to court for its approval when court reconvened. Excuse me - I can't help interjection here. Vacation was correct. It was simply saying that approval was given during a time the court was not meeting likewise vacation, and the court is now following up - crossing t and dotting i - to make sure that all know it has been approved. history@usmo.com Fay & Ed Mesa wrote: > Lucille, > > Thank you so much the definition, that makes more sense now. Hi I believe this is "vocation" instead of vacation. Vocation means one's regular calling or business. In this case it would mean while court was being held. Lucille susyq@fidnet.com
