A STATE GOVENMENT DISSOLVED-POLITICAL AND FINANCIAL RESAULTS. The State of Missouri is at present in a condition of chaos unprecedented in the history of this country.The Chief Executive of that State has committed treason against the federal government,and has fled from the capital,closely pursued by Federal forces who will have him in custody and safely transferred to a prison beyond the bounds of the State that he has dishonored and betrayed.The office of Govenor of Missouri is clearly vacant,and all the functions of a State administation are suspended.The Llieutenant-Govenor,upon whom the duties of Chief Executive would devolve under the Constitution,in the present contingency,is also absent from Missouri,having departed some time since,from extreme caution or on a treasonable mission,to the State of Arkansas.Finding the State Government broken up,and its leading members prosecuted for treason,it is not likely that the Lieutenant-Govenor(Thos.C.Reynolds,a South Carolinian by birth,and as great a traitor as any of them)will find it prudent to return.The President of the State Senate,the next in order of succession,has too dark a record to justify him in standing,when Jackson and Reynolds have fled. But not only have all the chief executive officers of the State abandoned the Capital and their duties,but so also have the heads of departments.The Treasurer,the Secretary of State,the Attorney-General-the entire body of State officials,as it appears-have shared the crime of the Govenor and joined him in his flight.There is no organized State Government now in Missouri,and the people are thrown back upon their original rights,to choose such Governments as they please.
