    1. [MOFRANKL-L] Death Register 83-87
    2. J. Mark & Natalie Davis
    3. Dear list I have been transcribing the Death Register for Franklin Co for the Missouri State Archives and wanted to request some help from everyone on the list. If you have family living in Franklin Co during these years, I would like you to send me those names. I might be able to find you some interesting facts, and this would give me a good way of double checking my entries. Even more importantly I may end up figuring out some of the spellings for many of these German names. The script was pretty fancy and sometime illegible. If you know of someone who died during this time and know the date that would be great. But even if you don't think anyone from your family died, I still request you send the name...there are a tremendous number of infants who died and you may not have known about these family members. It has been very interesting to transcribe this register. The records can contain any of the following - Name, sex, color, age at death (down to day sometimes), occupation, date of death, marital status, nationality, where born, how long resident of state, place of death, cause of death, complication, duration of complication, duration of disease, place of burial, date of burial, name of undertaker, place of business, name and residence of physician returning certificate. I have gotten attached to many of the undertakers and physicians, have learned a lot about 1800's medicine and handwriting, and have given myself quite a headache figuring out some of the words. Interesting occupations I have come across are coopers, cigar makers, marble cutter, wagon maker, shoemaker, etc. And some of the ailments went from sad to confusing. Great numbers died of cholera, dysentery & typhoid fever. And of course many women died in childbirth. Several were hit by trains, shot, and one guy died on gangrene of the mouth - yuck. I hope we can be of some use to each other. So please send me the names of your ancestors today. Thanks Natalie Athens GA
