Sunday, September 9, 2001 - The Franklin County Historical Society will be hosting the First Annual FCHS Picnic and History Fair and inviting all of the historical societies in Franklin County (and bordering counties also welcome) to attend and to set up tables on which to display and sell their books, postcards or other items relating to area history -- and to recruit membership as well. The guest speaker will be Gary Lucy, the well-known painter, of Washington, Missouri. Gary Lucy will talk about some of the research that went into his paintings, particularly the Lewis and Clark research. There will be some entertainment as well. This event will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the pavilion behind the St. John's Mantels UCC Church, located on Highway "A" between Union and Washington. A catered lunch will be provided for $8.00 per person -- Tickets need to be purchased in advance.
