MARGARETHA3 MARQUARDT, b. August 08, 1845, Denmark (was under German rule at the time according to family history); d. December 24, 1922, Pittsburgh, PA (cemetary in or near Alison Park). Generation No. 3 3. MARGARETHA3 MARQUARDT (HANS HINRICH2, JAKOB1) (Source: Her name was spelled this way on her son's birth certificate from Germany.) was born August 08, 1845 in Denmark (was under German rule at the time according to family history) (Source: Death certificate - file number 109098.), and died December 24, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA (cemetary in or near Alison Park) (Source: Death certificate - file number 109098.). She married FRIEDRICH WILHELM CARL (FRITZ) NEUMANN (Source: His son Friederich's birth certificate.) May 18, 1869 in Evangelische Kirche-Am Kloster, Uetersen, Germany, son of CARL NEUMANN and CHRISTINA LANGE. He was born June 10, 1837 in Mecklenburg, Germany (Source: Death certificate - file number 8279, his marriage record, and birth records from his children at Uetersen church.), and died January 19, 1914 in Pittsburgh, PA (cemetary in or near Alison Park) (Source: Death certificate - file number 8279.). Notes for MARGARETHA MARQUARDT: It was passed down in the family history that she was from Denmark and that her father was a Danish whaling captain. After receiving records that place both Margaretha and her parents in the Uetersen area from the times of their birth and after having done some historical research, I now know that Schleswig-Holstein, the area where Uetersen is located, belonged to Denmark at one time and then to Germany. The Germans even fought a war with the Danes, because there was the Eider Danish movement that wanted Schleswig-Holstein all the way down to the Eider River to be part of Denmark. Ironically, she thought of herself as Danish and her children, born in the same spot, thought of themselves as Germans. I guess that is what a generation can do to you. On her death certificate, she was listed as 77 years, 4 months, and 16 days old at death. The informant for the death certificate was listed as Mrs. G. W. Wolfe (her daughter Anna). Anna lived at 321 Winders Street at the time, and that is where Margaretha is listed as having died. The following is from the keeper of archives for the Protestant Church of Uetersen - Am Kloster, Richard Plath: Buch 130 Seite 24 Nr. 112 Geburt 08.08. 1845 Taufe 24.08. 1845 Margaretha, des aus Esingen gebürtigen Heuerlings auf dem Heidgraben Hans Hinrich Marquardt und dessen Ehefrau Metta geb.
