I just learned that there was a Confederate Soldier's Home (for indigent ex-Confederates, their wives, widows, and orphans) at Higginsville, MO, in Lafayette County? It was started in 1889 and consisted of 892 acres with 11 3-room cottages. Apparently they strived for self-sufficiency by farming, etc. There is an article about it in the March 18, 1892 issue of the Tribune-Republican. At that time, fifty men, women and children were being housed there. Perhaps this will be of some help to researchers. Possibly some Franklin County people might have gone there??
