I am trying to get a picture of the African American migration to Franklin County. My ancestors (Disons or Dsyons) were thought to live in an area called Dundee. I am having quite a difficult time finding any African American history in Franklin County. Any suggestions out there?

Mary, This is amazing! Have you read my article on him at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~mofrankl/index.html> then click on the "Newspaper Articles" button. I am delighted to hear from you. When I decided to put some of my old newspaper clippings on the website, I started with that one! Bob Pierce (Robert) in St. Clair is their great-grandson. I knew Bob's father, Guy Pierce, as well. Bob, who is 77, runs Pierce Printing in St. Clair. I am sending you his phone number on a direct email. Sue
I'm interested in locating family members of Jeremiah and Amanda Roberts Pierce. Their daughter Marcia Pierce Baker was my grandmother. Thanks Mary icegal@fidmail.com

Susan Armilla THORP BARBIER died May 9, 1905 and is buried at Pacific, Mo. I would like to have an obituary for her - can anyone advise how I can obtain one? Floreda
Dear Subscribers, When the GenConnect boards merged with Ancestry.com a few days ago, I was really upset by the changes but decided not to broadcast my negativism too much since it looks like we are going to have to live with this change. I have to tell you that I'm feeling a little more comfortable with the new boards today. I went to the Franklin County page <http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.united-20-sta tes.states.missouri.counties.franklin&o=1> and expanded everything THEN did my searches. They worked fine and it is actually kind of cool to be able to get everything that even mentions your surnames (perhaps buried deep in an obit as a sister-in-law to the deceased or whatever). I think we will all be fine with this once we get used to it. The information is all there as far as I can determine, just in a different format from what we are accustomed. The boards are not as easy to use, but a lot more information is available. However, I think there is a problem with the email addresses of people who posted before but have not updated their email addresses on the new system. If you have ever posted anything on the GenConnect boards, please go into the new site and register your email address and password even if you are not posting anything at this time. That will update your information with the board so people reading your old postings will be able to find you. As a reminder, THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR USING THESE BOARDS. There are still some bugs to be worked out but let's keep a positive attitude and give this thing a chance. Have a good day! Dear List, A man who is not on this list has contacted me for help in locating information about his Franklin County ancestors. His Maupin Ancester married first a Girdler and then a Saylers. This was in the mid and late 1800s. Is anyone researching this line? If this rings a bell please let me know and I'll pass the information or put him in touch with you. Ross Malone rmalone@fidnet.com

To obtain marriage records, copies are $1 per page (this is basically $1 per marriage). Certified would be $9 if necessary (unlikely). The address is Recorder of Deeds, 300 East Main, Room 101, Union MO 63084-1675. Their direct phone number is 636-583-6367. Have you checked the Franklin County Genealogy website lately? There is now a list (not complete) of known residents of the Franklin County Poor Farm !! If you are having trouble finding an ancestor, this might be the answer. In the days before Social Security and Old Age Assistance (an earlier form of relief for the elderly), people who were unable to work and had no relatives who could take them in were sent to the Poor Farm. When people died there, they were often buried on the site with no markers. Some were buried elsewhere and if that information is known, it is noted. Go to the site, then click on "links" and look for the link to information on wards of the court at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~mofrankl/index.html> Anyone with information as to who is buried in family graveyards (even if only one grave) is asked to provide that information for posting if it is not already in the Four Rivers cemetery books or if you have information about graves that were omitted from the books (most likely due to not having stones or an illegible stone). If you aren't sure, I can check the books for you. Have a good day! MARGARETHA3 MARQUARDT, b. August 08, 1845, Denmark (was under German rule at the time according to family history); d. December 24, 1922, Pittsburgh, PA (cemetary in or near Alison Park). Generation No. 3 3. MARGARETHA3 MARQUARDT (HANS HINRICH2, JAKOB1) (Source: Her name was spelled this way on her son's birth certificate from Germany.) was born August 08, 1845 in Denmark (was under German rule at the time according to family history) (Source: Death certificate - file number 109098.), and died December 24, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA (cemetary in or near Alison Park) (Source: Death certificate - file number 109098.). She married FRIEDRICH WILHELM CARL (FRITZ) NEUMANN (Source: His son Friederich's birth certificate.) May 18, 1869 in Evangelische Kirche-Am Kloster, Uetersen, Germany, son of CARL NEUMANN and CHRISTINA LANGE. He was born June 10, 1837 in Mecklenburg, Germany (Source: Death certificate - file number 8279, his marriage record, and birth records from his children at Uetersen church.), and died January 19, 1914 in Pittsburgh, PA (cemetary in or near Alison Park) (Source: Death certificate - file number 8279.). Notes for MARGARETHA MARQUARDT: It was passed down in the family history that she was from Denmark and that her father was a Danish whaling captain. After receiving records that place both Margaretha and her parents in the Uetersen area from the times of their birth and after having done some historical research, I now know that Schleswig-Holstein, the area where Uetersen is located, belonged to Denmark at one time and then to Germany. The Germans even fought a war with the Danes, because there was the Eider Danish movement that wanted Schleswig-Holstein all the way down to the Eider River to be part of Denmark. Ironically, she thought of herself as Danish and her children, born in the same spot, thought of themselves as Germans. I guess that is what a generation can do to you. On her death certificate, she was listed as 77 years, 4 months, and 16 days old at death. The informant for the death certificate was listed as Mrs. G. W. Wolfe (her daughter Anna). Anna lived at 321 Winders Street at the time, and that is where Margaretha is listed as having died. The following is from the keeper of archives for the Protestant Church of Uetersen - Am Kloster, Richard Plath: Buch 130 Seite 24 Nr. 112 Geburt 08.08. 1845 Taufe 24.08. 1845 Margaretha, des aus Esingen gebürtigen Heuerlings auf dem Heidgraben Hans Hinrich Marquardt und dessen Ehefrau Metta geb. Glashoff. Emigrated in 1900 according to 1920 census. More About MARGARETHA MARQUARDT: Baptism: August 24, 1845, Uetersen, Germany Birthplace: Denmark Burial: December 26, 1922, Oakland Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Source: Death certificate - file number 109098.) Occupation: Housewife Residence before marriage: 1869, Loh, Germany Hope to hear from somebody! Sincerely, Russell Lentz Tallahassee, Florida, U.S.A. Bill, I called Lou Brown and he tells me that he is still the caretaker and that he and Tom Hennessey put up the signs and listings. They are planning to put up some rules in the near future. He was glad to hear that he had helped someone. Thanks for writing. Sue Cooley Franklin County Coordinator Missouri USGenWeb Project He and Tom Hennessey. Can someone tell me if Mr. Lou Brown is still the caretaker for St. Bridget's Cemetery in Pacific? Also, I would like to thank whomever put up the signs and listings at the cemetery, for if they had not done so, I would not have noticed that someone put a marker up for my g-g-grandparents, George and Barbara (Schriefer) Fuchs, since the last time I had been there. Obviously, I am now interested in finding out who had the marker installed. Bill Scroggin Chesterfield, Missouri
