    1. [MOFRANKL-L] Pacific/Eureka History
    2. Michelle Robinson
    3. Hello List members, I am new to the list and was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I am trying to do historical research on Eureka and Allenton. Although these are not in Franklin County, they border it. Also, lots of travel was done between Pacific (Franklin) and Allenton and Eureka. Therefore, I thought, possibly, there might be list members who are/were from the area who might be able to help me. I have not talked with Sue Reed (at the Pacific library). I'm sure she will be able to help me lots, but I am also interested in memories and stories about these towns. I am now in the process of talking with some of the older members of the community, but my time doesn't allow it as much as I would like. If anyone can offer any guidance or direction, please let me know! I appreciate your help! Michelle muesic@msn.com

    2. Ronald L. Bowen
    3. Paul, I received the same email signed by an Edith but from a different email address. My husband is highly trained in computers and software. Our McAffe Virus protectiion or NETWORK ICE caught it when I opened the attachment so we killed it right away. He said it was a Trojan type virus with a "back door" that can allow someone to get into your computer and steal your info and is VERY SERIOUS. He also said most people would not know they have it. The email address was from someone (not a message board eamil) who I had sent an inquiry and was expecting an answer from, so was very deceptive! 1. [MOFRANKL-L] The new boards
    2. S Cooley
    3. In case you have not checked out the new boards, I would like to encourage you to do so. Several volunteers have been entering obituaries and the size of the site has doubled in the past four to six weeks. It is a very valuable resource to researchers and is growing almost every day. There is a great search engine that picks out all of the surnames (or any word, for that matter) in the obituaries so when you do a search, you get every obit that mentions the name you are searching on. Besides being able to search on your surnames, you could actually search to find all the funerals performed by a particular minister or at a particular church or cemetery or by a particular funeral home. Check it out at: <http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.s tates.missouri.counties.franklin> If you have obituaries on hand, please take the time to enter them into the system so they will be available for other researchers. If they were printed in newspapers outside Franklin County (such as when someone born here died elsewhere), PLEASE enter those as they are less likely to be found by Franklin County researchers, particularly if the place of death is not known. If you would like to volunteer to enter obituaries, let me know and I will supply you with some. All I ask is that you type accurately and that you return any you are unable to enter so someone else can do so. Also, I want to be sure everyone is aware that the Franklin County Historical Society is holding the First Annual FCHS Picnic and History Fair on Sunday, September 9. It will be held at the pavilion behind the St. John's UCC Mantels Church on Highway A between Union and Washington, starting at 2 p.m. All of the historical societies in the county are invited to set up a table at the fair to sell whatever books, postcards, or other items they may have available. There will be a catered lunch ($8 per person -- paid in advance - you can contact me for info on this) Also, Gary Lucy, the well-known Washington artist who has painting numerous Missouri and Mississippi river scenes and riverboats, will be our guest speaker. He will be talking about his extensive research on the Lewis and Clark trail. Please plan to join us on that date. Thanks, Sue Cooley List Administrator and FCHS President

    3. I am glad to see the register up and running, however, I would like to know if anyone out there has any information on how to trace African Americans in Franklin County. Three generations of my family lived there and it would appear that they do not exist in any formal record. I have tried to obtain the appropriate certificates (birth/death/marriage) but have not had much luck. I am looking for Dyson's/Dison's (McCoy & Nancy) circa 1850's Margaret Dyson born July 1876 -- The Kaiser/Kiser side of my family lived in this area as well. John Kiser (Margarets husband) born 1874 died ca 1909: Harvey Kiser (John's father) born 1851 not sure of death.; Allen Kiser (Harvey's father) born 1827 not sure of death. 2. Doris Larson posted a query on 8 July 1998 re the family of Caleb Anderson BOYD and Maria Jayne COLE of Franklin Co., parents of her grandmother Cora Lydia BOYD. Caleb's father was Elemuel BOYD. These Boyds resided in eastern Franklin Co. in the 1800's. I am related to this family but cannot reach Doris because her address (formerly meiko@slc.quik.c) has apparently changed. Can anyone help? Mike Boyd 2329 Whittemore Pl. St. Louis MO 63104

    2. I want to notify you of a virus alert I received on a file addressed to me through MOFRANKL-L. The alert was likely the result of an overzealous antivirus system. Though It might be a virus which the sender inadvertently picked up in which case the sender needs to know to eliminate it. The sender was sqfgen7@ruralcom.net (Edith V. Fisher). Please don't take this as an indictment. I am only trying to protect the sender and everyone, if there is a problem. Many groups don't allow attachments to be sent through their address. I am interested in what the sender was trying to say to me in an attachment. If you could send me the information in an open email letter, I would appreciate it. 1. [MOFRANKL-L] Death Register Update
    2. J. Mark & Natalie Davis
    3. Thanks to all those people who have sent me names to look up in the Death Register of Franklin Co 1883-1887. I am currently working on proof reading for errors. I expect that to take two weeks, and am still taking names to lookup in the death register. I think I've found some good stuff for a couple of you out there. I'll let the list know when the Archives posts the information on the web. If you haven't been to the site yet, they have information you might not have found elsewhere for most counties in Missouri. They have posted the Birth Register for Franklin Co for the years 1883-1887 at http://mosl.sos.state.mo.us/rec-man/archives/resources/bdrecords/records3.html . Keep in mind that it is only semi-alphabetical (which means all the S last names are together, but not completely alphabetized). Happy Hunting! Natalie Athens GA

    3. I just posted an obituary for Mrs. Martha Mosley Hasselfeld (my great-great grandmother), who died in Lincoln county in 1929. It mentions ten grandchildren living at the time of her death. I know of eight of them. Does anyone know the other two? I know about: 1. Elsie Hasselfeld (b. 1918), daughter of James Henry Alvin "Allie' Hasselfeld and his wife Annie (don't know her maiden name). Children of Jesse Dunard and Addie Hasselfeld: 2. Lillian Frances Dunard (b. 1920) 3. Jessie Marie Dunard (b. 1922) 4. Dorothy Lea Dunard (b. 1923) 5. Katherine Pauline Dunard (b. 1925) 6. John Kenneth Dunard (b. 1928) Jesse & Addie had two more children after 1929 (Robert Harris Dunard and Donald Dee Dunard). Sons of William Arthur Hasselfeld and Eva May Dunard: 7. William Hicks Hasselfeld (b. 1918) 8. Marvin Hasselfeld Who are the ninth and tenth grandchildren, and who are their parents? 1. [MOFRANKL-L] Martha Mosley Hasselfeld Obituary
    2. Robert W. Taylor
    3. >From the 29 March 1929 issue of the Troy Free Press, page 7, column 3: Obituary-Mrs. John Hasselfeld Martha Carline Hasselfeld (nee Mosley) was born October 11, 1857 in Franklin county, Mo., and departed this life Wednesday, March 20, 1929, at 5 p.m., at her home two miles south of Troy, after only a few days illness, of pneumonia and heart trouble, at the age of 71 years, four months and nine days. She united with the Christian church while young, having her membership at Hawk Point for many years, later transferring it to Troy. She was united in marriage to John Hasselfeld October 3, 1883. To this union were born eight children, all survive but one (Anne Elizabeth), who died at the age of two years. Those living are: Chas., Allie., Addie (now Mrs. Jess Dunard), Lillie (now Mrs. Guy Stepanek), Mary (now Mrs. Paul Stepanek), Will and Robert, all of Troy. All of the family were at the bedside at the time of her death. Besides her family she leaves to mourn her departure, ten grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. John Campbell, of Troy. Her life was one consecrated to industry and perseverance, always doing whatsoever her hands found necessary to do. She was kind hearted almost to a fault and a thoughtful, accommodating, indulgent mother, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need and trouble. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Friday afternoon, March 22, by Rev. M.D. Dudley, and burial was in the Troy cemetery. Carl & Tricia, feel free to add to the the Lincoln county web page. Rob. Rob. Taylor Columbia, MO
