    3. Margaret If I recall correctly the McBride Funeral Home records only dated back to about 1910. There may be a few years before then, but definitely nothing in the 1890's. McBride then sold out to E W Landess who in turn changed the name but kept the records. Then E W Landess sold out to his ex-daughter-in-law Christine Beall who kept the name as Landess and kept all the records. When Christine sold the business it was a young couple (probably in their early 30's) who had bought one of the funeral homes in Malden. All I know is that one of the Pennington cousins inquired via phone to Landess about 2 years ago and the reply was that they didn't have any of the old records. My first thought was that perhaps the main office is in Malden even though the phone call was to a Campbell listing. I seem to recall that the Malden business the couple bought is really not that old and thought perhaps the person was not familar with the Landess records. If I were given the information saying that one name per inquiry, I would think that they really aren't that interested in helping people or it is an employee who is just plain lazy and doesn't want to provide a service which in turn could mean additional business in the future. I do know that the information on the death certificates is roughly the same as that on the funeral home records sheet. The death certificate does however make provision for current address and the precise location of the death. It seems that Mr McBride and Mr Landess were not that interested in getting the detailed informaiton regarding the names and birthplaces of the parents and thus in most cases that info is not available even though MO required the death certificates to be filed with the info beginning in 1910. You'd probably have more luck in seeking an obit. I have found that even though the Campbell Citzen didn't start publicizing until 1902 that the deaths and related obits appeared in the Daily Dunklin Democrat (must have been the only newspaper prior to 1902). I have found in the years ago column of the DDD info on numerous Campbell area citizens who had death dates in the 1890's and some even int he 1880's. Of course sometimes it depended on how much the family was known in the county for the individuals to have some mention. I know that some of the Lacy family used Rocky Hill Cemetery for their burials. Five who have stones are Albert J (son of Chism and Maria E); Chism, Maria E, James R (son of Chism and Maria E); and Lula (wife of James R). Rocky Hill also contains various unmarked graves. However, you just don't know if those buried are connected to those who have stones in the neighboring lot or are another family.
