But where or when I have no clue. I am hoping my visit to Dunklin County will provide me with more information. Thank you so very much for asking your mother about my family. I often ask my dad about someone and he'll say he don't know them and next time I see him, he'll say " I lied the other day, I do know so and so". LOL He'll sit and think about who I asked him about when he isn't distracted and remember who they were. I tell my husband his family was outlaws or something, due to them being so hard to track. I have had so much trouble with his family. However, the names I have to work with are mostly names I discovered my own. I started basically with my husband's name, his parents, and grandparents and very few dates. I will email you privately with a lil more information I have about Irene, that I don't want to put out on a public forum. I just found out today that I should be in Jefferson City the week after next. Kristy

Found this about a John Stratton and thought it might give you a clue to check out perhaps the 1880 census and maybe would lead to your Daniel B. Stratton. "In 1880 the population of the village of Hornersville was 326. Among these were the following and their families: Judge John W, Black, P. P. Bryant, Geo. W, Hall, C. B. shultz, W. J. Davis, Rufus R. Bishop, Robert Brannum, Zenith Tinnin, W. M. Mizell, Clem Edmonston, Sam Edmonston, Nix Culp, Russell Horner, Mary Brannum, William Lane, Pascal Rice, William Dunaway, JOHN STRATTON, John R. Meredith, William McDaniel, Lucinda McBee, John W. Edmonston, Louisa Williford, W. F. Williams, Daniel Peppers, Mary Weaver, John W. Long, William Cates, A. H. Short, W. J. Williams. The Langdons were yet at CottonPlant in 1880, and Dr. Eli T. Anderson did not come to Dunklin County until 1886. The Neels, the Lomaxes and the Horners lived in the vicinity of Hornersville. As you might have already known these books were started in the 1950's so it is before computer access to the census, etc., and lot of information was just written my well meaning people. Thank heaven that we have it from the past but the computer age has certainly made things easier to find. Sharon Weaver

Right off she could not think of an Ernest James Richardson, or a Irene Sarah Reins Raines-Rhynes- RICHARDSON. I was hopeing that the names might ring a bell since Sarah and my Mother would be close in age. What she ASKED was did they live in "Bethany"? Since the Richardsons lived in "Bethany" which was called Bethany Community Church area but actually was a Babptist Chruch. "Bethany" was near POE and BIRNEY, in the DEXTER AREA. She says that the RICHARDSONS were mostly living in Pocahonas, Arkansas. That when they went to visit her Mother's Richardson "kin folk" they mostly lived in or near Pocahonas, ARK. Seemed that Dunklin Richardson settled in Kennet, Mo, and also later his son Earl Richardson was post master in Kennet. But after Dunklin Richardson got older and wife's died or left him, he returned to brothers and relatives in or near Pocahonas, ARK. Did not return to Mo until just before he died in Mo. in 1950. Mother lived in Valley Ridge, Valley Ridge had a train stop that her and her brother would ride the train to Kennet to visit with their Grandparents. My Daddy was from Four Mile. All of these towns or communities are considered part of Campbell area. Not much help for you, but sometimes Mother will think about names, and maybe she will call Venia in Campbell, and the two of them will start thinking about people. My Mother would have been close to Irene Sarah Raines-Richardson's age. Sharon Weaver .

I believe Gibson Cemetary is in Kennett, I will double check. But I think the death certificate said "Gibson Cemetery, Kennett, MO" You asked: Also if your able to obtain a copy of Nettie White's death certificate I would appreciate a copy." As for getting Nettie White's death certificate, it is available online as well. You can download a copy from that site or I can pick one up. I believe it says cause of death was "Labor Pnuemonia". Did she have a child around that time? I looked at so many yesterday hard to keep track of whose said what. Now about my Richardsons. I don't know alot but here is all I know. Irene was the daughter of George and Rosie Raines/Rains. She had 2 sisters, Gladys and Ruth. She died in Mar 1974. She was in a train accident and while in the hospital she started having "mad fits". Her doctor sent her to the state hospital where she died. How long before she went to state hospital did she have the train accident? I don't know. As for Earnest James Richardson I don't know anything about him other than he was married to Irene had at least 4 children, Louise, Caroline(went by Junie), Louis and 1 that died young. One of his parents was from Germany, other was from England. Or maybe his grandparents. He died when his son was a teenager, so that would been in the early/mid 50's. His son Louis Richardson died in 1993 and was married to Juanita May Stratton, daughter of Sherly and Maybell Stratton. Louis was an avid outdoorsman and went by the nickname "Buster". I don't know that they actually lived in Campbell, but close to. I am pretty sure that they lived in Malden which isn't far. I am not 100 percent sure that Earnest James Richardson was his name. That information came from my mother in law, but she never really knew him as she was born 1954. She may have gotten name twisted or mixed up. I am going to Dunklin County Libary next week, cemetery and hopefully the courthouse. Anything you can provide is much much appreciated.

I went on to the Mo Site and got a copy of Nettie Richardsons Death Certificate. I am so excited. Can not imagine that that is available for free. Plus Debbie Geer sent me the Information on Dunklin S. Richardson. But can't get the Death Certificate. Yes, if at all possible please try to get a copy of his Certificate. That might be a great help. Mother says that he remarried after Emma T. Richardson died, to a Red Head but that is pretty much all she remembers. Just that the woman had quote: Bright RED HAIR. She thinks that woman also died, or they divorced after a very short time. But of course Mother thought that her Grandmother Richardson died within a year of her own Mother, Nettie (nee Richardson) White. Which according to the death certificates, Emma T. Richardson died May 31, 1925 and Nettie White died December 25, 1925. But as I understand from the stories Mother tells, her Mother (Nettie) was ill for several months before she died on Christmas. Sure that since Mother was young, and her Mother's death left her with a Brother who was also ill, and then was shiffted from Aunts & Uncles, and Father. Not surprising she does not keep it all exactly straight. She had said that it was her Great Grandmother on her Mother's side that died also within the same year. But I don't know if it would have been Great Grandmother Richardson, Great Grandmother Reed or possibly Great Grandmother White? Mother is very insistent that it was ALL THREE on her Mother's side of the family. So if she is correct it would either be a Richardson, (Dunklin S. 's Mother) or a Reed,, Emma or emmer Reed's Mother. Which would/could possibly be the E. Rasbury???? Mother kept in contact with a Earl Richardson who she said was HER Uncle. He later moved to Texas and had a son and daughter that quote :"were Big Important Doctors and Nurses in Houston, Texas". It would probably be very interesting to connect with Earl R. Richardson Born abt. 1901 children because they might know more of the family history. Do you have any idea where Gibson Cemetery is located??? If your able to locate Dunklin S. Richardson in the 1930 Census that would be a big help. Also if your able to obtain a copy of Nettie White's death certificate I would appreciate a copy. Now, can you give me some help about Earnest James Richardson, do you have any idea what name he went by? Also his wife Irene Raines where about's did she live in Campbell? My Mother would be close to her age probably, and so she quiet possibly will remember her. Did she have brothers or sisters? What were her parents names? Mother lived in Campbell until 1941 and would make trips back to see her brother and Dad. My Dad was also from Campbell but he was from other side of town and was quiet a bit older than my Mother. My Mother also still keeps in contact with her Sister-In-Law who still resides in Campbell and the two of them both seem to have good memories of the "Missouri Folks". It helps when I ask Mother if I have an idea of where they lived, and maybe their parents names since she seems to have pretty good recall of names, and then will start telling "tales" and "secrets" about them. Ha. But unfortunately it seems like they all had nick names or else shortened their names from what is listed on their birth records. I ran into that on my Daddy's side, two men with the same name and related, but one was known as "Smokin Frank" and the other "Loud Mouth Frank". Actually they were both actually Benjamin Franklin Snider's, as it turns out. Ha. I wonder where in Tennessee most of the Campbell people came from? I know my uncle was originally born in Kentucky and several of the Kentucky people moved to Campbell, later to farm. So probably the same with the Richardsons????? Same is true apparently with the Elders. I had not been sure Mother was right about Dunklin Richardson because I wondered if they just called him Dunklin because of Dunklin County. But sure enough guess she was right. Thanks again for all your help. Hope to hear from you soon, and I will then sit down and ask Mother. Sharon Weaver

    1. Is your source reliable?
    2. Debbi Geer
    3. Since I lost a couple of years of research last summer when my computer and the CD backup disk decided to have their own minds, I have been re-researching the various family lines in my husband's family and my own family. This afternoon as I was searching for information in the census and recording it, it dawned on me that there may be times when sources we consider to be very reliable are not as reliable as we have always thought or want them to be. I'm sure most of us have either heard or said "X said this and they would never lie (or tell stories) about the family". And then we all have looked at or found the one gold mine 'the family Bible' and there in the family pages are entries we need for our research. However...how reliable are the stories we've heard or re-told and the information in the family Bible? I'm like everyone else, we want to believe that our older relatives would never lead us astray in any way, but we all know that they do - maybe not purposely, but they do by their spoken and/or written words. But there are three questions we need to ask ourselves in order to help our research - Who told the story and when was it first told? Who wrote the information in the family Bible and when? How was the mentality of our relative at the time the information was told or written? There are many in their later years who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Years ago it was simply recorded as 'old age' or 'senile' or in some cases 'crazy' and people just accepted it as part of the aging process of life. Today, the medical profession claim that they can try to narrow the time down to a few years of when it first started, but everyone knows that a person can have a medical problem for years before it is diagnosed simply because it was dormant or in remission for a while or simply not diagnosed or worse yet the family did not want to acknowledge there was a problem and di nothing about it until it was too late. When we hear a story or have the Bible's family pages at our disposal, we need to research the information before we say that it is a good source for our research. Sometimes a story or the family info in the Bible could have been from a member of an earlier generation who might have had a memory problem at the time and no one knew it. And even if the person had good mental health, they could have told the story correctly but a younger generation is now passing it on with a few keys words missing and thus changing the story. I know that one person told me a story once that was true except for the generation that it occurred in. She claimed that the story occurred about 4 or 5 generations before her husband, when in reality the story was actually about her father-in-law and what he did - changed the spelling of the surname after he and two of his brothers got into a family squabble. And in another case a person wrote the family info in the family Bible and even though was considered to be in good mental health she had screwed up a good 25% of it. Sadly she considered herself the foremost authority in the family although she did not ever do any research. She simply based everything on what she had heard from relatives years before and didn't bother to make sure she had her facts right before recording them. She meant well, but let's face it, that family Bible is now considered "unrealiable". As I look back, I get the feeling that the woman had an undiagnosed stroke which resulted in some memory problems. So when you're thinking about or reading the story by X or looking at the family Bible, use the information with some caution. When we find the truth, it may not what we or others want it to be, but we have to make sure that the errors in our history are corrected.
