Hi everyone I just joined the list and I want to know is there a Dunklin Historical or Genealogy Society? I have made two trips to Dunklin County to search for Stephens Chapel Cemetery and on this last trip, I found what I "think" might be it. Going down Hwy 25 coming from Arkansas turn left on Hwy D, there will be a sign for Speedway Race track and there will be a car suspended in the air. Go approx one mile and turn right, if you pass the race track you have gone to far. After turning right appox 3/4 of a mile there is a cemetery on the right and one on the left. My concern is that the cemetery on the right is detoriating, there are approx 75 graves in both cemeteries. There are no names on these cemeteries, the sign posts are there but no names. The cemetery to the right, you can not read most of the names they are in such bad shape. I was looking for Benjamin and Nancy Summers according to their death certs they are buried there, But who knows? The names we did find were Bowman, Hampton, Williams and Hendrix. The cemetery to the left is enclosed in a fence and the grave stones are a little better but not much, there is a sign hanging wanting donations and I wished I had written down the names and phone numbers so I could call them and make sure I was at Stephens Chapel This would make a wonderful community project for Eagle Scouts or community club for this cemetery will not be readable at all in a few years. I live 600 miles away or I would do. Wilma Ennis, Texas

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. I took a trip back there last September and the gold mine was the historical society. Wonderfully kind people who allowed us to spend the day going through books and microfische and answering many many questions. They are listed under web searches and will probably help you if they can. As for old cemetery records, we've had a difficult time with this.. there are no headstones for my gggrandparents, atleast none that we were able to find. The newer cemetery does have old plot records and they were willing to walk us through the cemetery, however, we arrived in town after they were already closed so we missed out on that opportunity. I contacted funeral homes and no one seemed to have the funeral information from before 1925. I also contacted the Baptist churches, my gggrandpa was a Deacon. I was told that the ministers usually took the records with them when they lef! t that church. I ran a yellow page listing for businesses in Malden to get the numbers also numbers are on the chamber of commerce listing. We also had luck with county records at the court house in Kennett. These people can be very helpful as well, their old records are wonderful. The Dunklin site at usgenweb has info on them. I found there isnt much info online about Malden and you either have to call, write or better yet visit if you can.

Was there a Henley, in this Family line? My dad doesn't remember his Aunt Birdie's last name. But grandmothers name was Laura Ann.
