There's been some discussion in the past few days about the Brannan family from Dunklin Co MO. While working on a project I ran across an article in the Campbell Area History book (published 1982) which was written by Mrs Gladys Kline. In this article she writes "I am the daughter of David Brannan, whose father Mike Brannan of Ireland who arrived in the United States in time to serve his country during the Civil War." I know that there are several Brannan (and sometimes spelled Brannon) families in Dunklin Co, but thought this might help someone who is researching the Brannan surname so that they can distinguish between at least two of the families. She was born in 1889 prob. in Dunklin Co., but other records state Ark. However, I did find her in the 1900 census with her sister and living with her uncle. I found her in Dunklin Co. in Independance twp with William Shultz and family. She is listed as a Niece to him. I found that her parents were Charles Brannum and his wife Mary Schultz. William was Mary's brother.. I also found Charles and mary in the 1880 census of of Clay twp of Dunklin twp, just prior to Bernetti's birth in 1889. It appears that since Bernitte was living with her uncle in 1900, that both Charles and Mary had died prior to 1900. Charles may have also gone by another given name earlier in life... but not sure. Family story my client has is that her early Brannum family came from New Madrid Co. Mo when the Earth quake hit and settled in Dunklin co. Since Charle's father would have been the age of the sons of Michael Brannum that did come from New Madrid, it seems likely that Charles is the son of one of the sons of Michael Brannum of 1777 of S.C. Do you have any info that would fit for Charles father? Charles was born about 1856 according to the census, so his father was born in the early to middle 1830's...this would seem to fit Michael's sons and the family story of the Earthquake also fits... Any suggestions? Thanks. Lance

Family records of my client states their Barnum family emigrated from New Madrid Co. Mo when the Earthquakes hit in 1812 etc..and that they came into Dunklin Co. Mo about 1835.,.This seems to fit the pattern of Michael and familyi... My client comes through a Charles Brannum (Branum) that was born abou5 1856 in Mo..and married Mary Schultz prob. daughter of Calvin Schultz and wire Elizabeth. WIth the age of Charles, it only seems logical that his father is one of the sons of Michael Branum. Charles may also have gone by another given name early in life such as (Something Charles Branum).... Do you have any ideas or records on the above..Thanks. Lance

The State of New Jersey is trying to complete a turnpike project. In doing so the future of a cemetery is at stake. A descendant of one of the 3500 or even possibly 9000 burials in the cemetery has been fighting the various levels of government in order to save the cemetery. It is my understanding that the those involved with the project were going to remove any remains and bury all in one great big mass grave and not make any attempt to notify the descendants/relatives. There is a website which has numerous articles and other information. Your support is needed. There are two ways to speak up and have your voice heard: 1) download a printable petition and obtain signatures, or 2) sign an online petition. I hope that those who have ancestors in the State of New Jersey will support the effort in saving this cemetery. If you don't have ancestors or relatives in New Jersey, then consider the fact that it could happen to a cemetery where your ancestors are buried. The website address is - www.graveinfo.com When I first heard about this a couple of months ago, I was appalled and emailed a couple of letters. I didn't think I would make a difference having no connections to New Jersey, but evidently it helped in some way. So if one can help do something, just think what thousands can do as a group. If you are are other mail lists, please pass this information on. The more signatures, the better chance that the officials in New Jersey as well as all other states will see that we care about our ancestors and respect their burial locations. Thank you for your support. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus.yahoo.com
