Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lMB.2ACI/1992 Message Board Post: I'm looking for Baker ancestors that lived in and around Dunklin County. They seemed to flit around a good bit, sometimes in Dunklin Co., Stoddard Co.or Clay Co. in Arkansas. I don't have all my info with me at the moment, but I'll post the names to see if anything rings a bell for someone. My grandpa was Joseph "Jody" Baker, married to Pearl Morrisett. They both died in the 1980's, so I have pretty much all the info on them. They lived in Campbell for years. I never knew him, but my grandpa had an older brother named Taylor Baker who also lived in in Dunklin County. My great granddad was George T. Baker, married to Desdemona Underwood. I believe he was born in Stoddard Co., but did live in Dunklin County some. He is buried in Clay County, Ark. George's dad was Michael Baker, married to Louisa (I think), and this is where the info starts getting pretty vague for me. Michael is the first generation to move to Missouri. He came from Tennessee, but not sure what part. Basically, I don't know much about him other than his name and the state he was born in. I think I got from somewhere that Michael's dad's name was John, but have no idea if that's true. Plus, I don't know now where that came from, so it's not reliable info. Does anyone know anything about these Bakers? If so, I'd really like to hear from you. Thanks, Randall Baker Nashville, TN

However, your post re: the CURTIS family caught my attention. My ancestor, ELIZABETH JANE CURTIS (1843-1890) (m. John Henneger Renfroe) lived in Henderson Co., TN, until late 1880's, then came to Dunklin Co., MO., where she died in 1890. They lived in the Senath area. I have yet to determine Elizabeth Jane's PARENTS. And what is a mystery is that various census records show her b. in TN, while others show TX. The TX connection shows up especially in her adult childrens' census information of where their mother was born. I've just about exhausted finding Elizabeth Jane's parents in TN, and your post has made me think twice about TEXAS. Do you, by chance, have an Elizabeth Jane CURTIS (b. 1843) in your files? When was your Thomas born, and do you have his parents? I know this is a longshot, but I didn't want to overlook a possible lead! Thanks, Pat

Hi A large source of leads to family-history data is now on line. It is comprised of the Tables of Contents of the first 22 volumes of the Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal, 1981-2002+. Importantly, below the Tables of Contents, is an index. Reviewers find the whole page easily navigated despite the great amount of data included. A few of the key words with which to search the index are county names, directions (east, south, north, west), and family surnames (for Bible records). Use your browsers search function. When you find interesting leads on the web page, you will probably want to see actual copies of the Journal. Many libraries subscribe to the Journal. There is also information, below the index on the web page, on how to obtain copies of articles or issues. One can get an idea as to the length of an article in the Journal by noting the page numbers where it begins and where the following article begins. However, some articles are serialized over two to four issues. The URL is <http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm>http://www.rollanet.org/~bdoerr/contents.htm >
