    3. I'm having to get out of the look-ups because I'm totally swamped but I happened to be working with Curry's 1957 "Reminiscent History of Douglas County" when your request came it. On pages 8 & 9 of Curry's book, he lists the "trading points and merchants" contained in the Merchants Assessment Book for 1897. In that listing, he lists on merchant: "Mrs. L.D. Painter, general merchandise." Hope that helps a little bit.
