Surnames: Athon,Spradlin, Bradley Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GKB.2ACE/1763 Message Board Post: Jesse Spradlin was my GGG Grandfather.I recently received what the Douglas Co Herald gave in a death notice for him & want to share with anyone else related: Died,March 9, 1905, Jesse Spradlin, an old soldier, near Merritt,Mo.He was born Oct 13, 1818 in Tenn.He was married to Susan Bradley Dec 13, 1838; went to Indiana before the war, where he raised a large family, nine of whom lived to be grandmothers & grandfathers. He leaves a wife & several children,46 grandchildren,& 46 great grandchildren. He enlisted in the army in June 1861;served 18 months when he was disabled , discharged & sent home.After the war he came to Mo.where he has lived ever since. He professed religion when young and was faithful to the end. He took his companions by the hand and said , "I will meet you in a better world than this." He leaves many friends. He died of old age & dropsy. He will be greatly missed. I do know Jesse was in Sumner Co.,Tn. in 1840,Warrick Co. In. in 1850 & 60 & Pike Co.,In. in 1870,Sullivan Co.,Mo. in 1880 & then in Douglas Co.,Mo. before 1900.He & Susan are buried at the Mills Cem in Douglas Co.,Mo.Their daughter, Sarah Anna married Hezekiah Athon in 1862 in Warrick Co. In.They too were in Sullivan Co.,Mo. in 1880 & their son Charles Everett Athon(My G Grandfather)stayed in that Co & is buried there. Sarah went on to Holt Co.,Nebraska & is buried there.Another daughter Octavia ended up in Cass Co.,Mo.Oldest child & son Joseph stayed in Warrick Co.,In. Another daughter, Louisa who married a Meeks was in Sullivan Co.,Mo. but don't know where she went to.I have a tree on them & I can be emailed at rlmckim@ nemr.net for more info.
