I'm still interested in learning more about Nancy Angeline YOUNG LOW, wife of Francis Marion LOW, and her family. Have you ever been in touch with any of their descendants? I know that most of them died quite young, but surely there must be a descendant(s) out there somewhere. In re-reading my original query, I noticed that I goofed in asking whether anyone knows if there was a connection between the YOUNG's of Douglas County, MO, and the YOUNG's of Ozark County, MO. I would appreciate hearing from you. I see that your maiden name (GENTRY) is one that is/was quite intermarried with my LOFTIS line in TN. Ginny in CO E-mail: gstrong6@juno.com

    1. James C. Smith, 1848-1928, Douglas Co MO
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Smith, Reid Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GKB.2ACE/1710 Message Board Post: I'm searching for information about James C. Smith in Douglas Co MO. What I know about him so far: 1. According to his cemetery tombstone transcription, James was born on 3 Jul 1848 and died on 9 Nov 1928. He is buried in row 10 of Penner Cemetery, located about 30 miles east of Ava, Douglas Co. MO. Buried in row 11 is a Jason C. Smith--no tombstone transcription is available for Jason. 2. James' tombstone transcription indicates that he served in Company M of the 13th MO Cavalry (USA) during the Civil War. William M.C. Reid, a son of my 3G-grandparents, John and Mary Ann Reid, of Phelps Co MO also served in that same company. William married a Mary Smith on 12 May 1864 in Phelps Co, and he died on 23 Apr 1866 in Phelps Co where he is buried alongside his father and brother-in-law in Pine Hill cemetery near St. James. I have been unsuccessful so far in uncovering any information about this Mary Smith, so I'm looking into the possibility that James C. Smith might be a brother of Mary Smith and that William M.C. Reid was introduced to Mary through their William's and James' friendship in serving together in the Civil War. Since Mary and William were married at a young age for such a short time before his death, I suspect that Mary likely remarried--to whom I have no clue. 3. Another possible Smith/Reid family connection to this James C. Smith is that another of my Reid 3G-grandparents' children, Mary A. Reid, married Newton Jasper Smith, and they appear as a household in the 1880 Douglas Co census for Clinton Township. I don't know why Newton and Mary settled in Douglas Co (they were married in Phelps Co in 1863), so I'm pursuing the possibility that Newton and Mary settled in Douglas Co to be near his Smith relations there. I'm hoping to establish a confirmed link that Newton and James C. (and Jason C.) might be kin. Any information or leads about the identity and family of this James C. Smith (and Jason C. Smith) would be appreciated. Regards, John Reid P.O. Box 7164 Libertyville IL 60048

    1. Newton Jasper Smith m. Mary A. Reid, Douglas Co MO
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Smith, Reid Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GKB.2ACE/1709 Message Board Post: I'm searching for information about Newton Jasper Smith and Mary A. Reid Smith. Newton was born about 1840 in AL; his parents haven't been identified yet. Mary was born on 12 Apr 1847 in Overton Co TN, a daughter of my 3G-grandparents, John W. and Mary Ann Hunter Reid, who lived in Phelps Co. when Newton and Mary were married there on 19 Nov 1863. After John W. died in 1867, Mary Ann and the family generally migrated to the Licking area in Texas Co. Except for a listing in the 1880 census of Douglas Co. MO, I haven't been able to trace where Newton and Mary went, nor have I found their burial location. I have very little information about Newton and Mary. I don't know whether Newton's parents or siblings had settled in Douglas Co which might explain why Newton and Mary moved there sometime after their marriage. I haven't found any other of my Reid or Hunter families moving to Douglas Co during this same period. Newton and Mary appear in the 1880 Douglas Co. census in Clinton Township (page 548D) with their five children: Joseph b. ca. 1865 John b. ca. 1870 Margret b. 1875 Noah b. 1877 Samuel b. 1879 It's believed that Newton fought in the Civil War on the Union side in MO, but I haven't been able to confirm this yet. I would appreciate any information or leads about Newton and Mary and their family in Douglas Co MO. or elsewhere. Regards, John Reid P.O. Box 7164 Libertyville IL 60048

He was a Baptist minister. He married Sarah Ann Martin, Humphreys I think in Johnson County. He had 12 children from his first wife Nancy and 4 more with Sarah. Sarah had 7 or 9 children from her first marriage. Many of his children's children/grandchildren are still in Douglas County. Thank you if you can help me. Jo Flores of Arizona
