Ken, Carla and I have corresponded off list on this town (Ottomer) and have decided it was located in this general area: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=37.02417&lon=-92.17000&datum=NAD27&s=50&size=l Mike Flannigan > Subject: RE: [MODOUGLA] Re: Ottomer, Douglas County, Mo. > Date: Tue, 17 May 2005 22:41:46 -0500 > From: "Kenneth Brown" <ozarkuncle@sbcglobal.net> > To: MODOUGLA-L@rootsweb.com > > You know, Mike, I just read your message again. You know, Mike, I just read your message again. I wonder if your 1889 map is identifying the town when it was temporarily out of Douglas. I'd love to exchange maps with you. Good question. I'm trying to locate it also. I think it was called Ottomen, and I think the location where it was located is now in Howell county. To my knowledge, that area was never part of Douglas county, but I could be wrong about that. The town was shown on an 1889 map in the NW part of the Howell county, which would be close to Douglas county. I have a little information regarding "Ottomer". Mike Flannigan, you're usually dead-on regarding the place names, but I think Douglas County gets to claim this one. I have two 1894 sectional maps that show Ottomer to be Clinton Township in extreme northeast Douglas County. Those maps make it appear that "Ottomer" was on the North Fork River less than 2 miles south of the county line (Sec. 7, Twp 27, R 11, it would appear). Also, my listing of Missouri post offices shows that an "Ottomer" post office existed in Douglas County for the period 1879-1909. One of the old Douglas County Historical Journals lists the postmasters/mistresses for each post office, but I don't have time to dig it out tonight. Try me next week as I'm about to leave for a family reunion trip. By the way, Clinton would have been one of those eastern townships that seceded from Douglas County for a period of time in the late 1800s and was attached to Texas County before being re-attached to Douglas County. Linda, Pardon me for asking about this. If I have understood that way these messages are gatewayed, I wonder if you won't have to contact the message board at ancestry.com to respond to the notice that you were trying to respond to. Does that seem correct to you? I know that you can access the message boards at ancestry.com without a subscription but you may have to register at the website. Going directly to that message board might get you the response that you are looking for.
