I was raised in Douglas County, and all of my life I was told there was Indian blood in the family. However, I am back to 1792 and have found nothing but English ancestry. I have pictures of ancestors with high cheekbones, brown eyes and black hair. Maybe the Indian was "in the woodpile" as they used to say! The Castalow's in Bertie County, however, were mulatto.

I went to Bethel School until it was closed, probably about 1950. At that time we were bused to Bradleyville, Mo. which is in Taney County. I went to school with a Leonard Maggard, and Maggard was a common name in that area. I moved away when I was 12, and that is the only Maggard name I remember.

The following address is where I found both Dempsey C. Jennings and William H. Evans: http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=8667&iid=MOM123_30-0292&desc=Dempsey+C+Jennings&pid=280008 William H. Evans is my great-grandfather. I am asking for help in reading the notation at the bottom of the page for Line 33. As far as I can tell, this is what it says: "Post Office Address: Rome, Douglas County Missouri -- Disability Incurred: Taken prisoner and died -- Remarks: Information _______ ________ from son in law." I would appreciate any help in trying to figure out what the rest of the remarks are. I believe the "son in law" would be my grandfather, William Daniel Jennings who was married to William's and Mary's daughter, Mary Emmaline Evans. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
