Coats married Nora H. Veasey in Douglas County in September, 1980, and that Walter Earl Coats was their first child (b. 1891). I seek cofirmation that their other children were Viola Mae (b. 1893) and Charley (b. 1894) as well as information about Charles C. Veasey who, I assume, is the father of Nora.

My great grandmother Saloma Whitecotton b. 1852 Bradley Co TN was raised by James and Malvina Priscilla Mowery/Mourey, her aunt and uncle. Her sister Sophronia/Safrony Whitecotton was raised by Joseph and Jane Thompson, her grandparents. How and where did you find out that Joseph Thompson b. 1790 NC was married to a Whitecotton? Her name was definitely Jane; she shows up in every census record with Joseph until 1870. She must have died around the time of the Civil War--but where??? Do you know where old Joseph Thompson our gx3 grandfather is buried? He was no longer living with the Mowerys/Moureys by 1880 census. I am eager to share with you, this has been a difficult and interesting family to trace! Betty Tartas in WA state

    2. I don't have Miller or Rosella in my database. However, I'm still looking for the family of Elizabeth RILEY (c. 1856 - c. 1883), who married James Pleasanton "Pleas" GOODMAN and had three children, Nellie, Elsie, and John, my gg-grandfather. Pleas later married Missouri "Puss"ALSUP (1865-1894, d/o William Newton ALSUP and Lydia PARSONS, four children) and Henrietta Josephine WOODS (1873-1951, d/o John Sevier WOODS and Louisa Jane SLUDER, one son, Basil). John GOODMAN married a niece of his stepmother and his sister's stepdaughter, Rosa WOODS. If anyone can contibute on the children or any branch mentioned, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! 2. I found a listing in one of my books on Alta Woods married Edward McIntosh. They had the following children: Joseph born 1925, died WWII - served in USNavy is buried in Tulare, Cal Gerald McIntosh, Robert McIntosh, Dale McIntosh. The family lived in Norwood. Bessie Sellecks book is where I found the above info. In Nancy Todd Weber's book I found the following Harriet (Johnson) was the widow of NIMROD MCINTOSH who "died of the fever, ill 40 days" Jan. 1860. Nimrod McIntosh was born 1834 in Perry Co Ky, had known brothers and sisters James born circa 1816, Stephen, Edward, and Rachel born circa 1833. Nimrod McIntosh married circa 1852 Harriet Johnson. Harriet Johnson McIntosh married (2) Leroy Hawkins and they moved to Marion Co Ar. Hope this info connects with your family. I also research the McIntosh family - the family married into the Alsup family. Pat Alsup Hardman

    3. Perhaps the following will help make your trip to Ava a success. What records are at the Courthouse? Can I look at them? Do I need an appointment? There are quite a few records available at the Courthouse--mainly real estate and school, and probate records. I don't think you need an appointment. Is there a library? The Douglas County Library is a copy of blocks southwest of the Ava square. It has a section of genealogy records. The Library has microfilm of the Douglas County Herald from 1887 until the early 1940s. You can make hard copies for 25 cents/page. Historical Society? The Douglas County Historical and Genealogical Society has its Museum just east of the Ava Square. The Society has lots of cemetery, marriage, birth, and other books available for reference and for purchase. You can visit the Society's web site at http://goin.missouri.org/orgs/docomuseum. Also my web site at http://courses.smsu.edu/kwb237f/douglas may be of some help to you. I'm sending a carbon of this message to the Society's current president, Guy Gettys. Newspaper Office? The Douglas County Herald office is located just across the street from the Museum. It has microfilm for all newspaper issues starting from 1887. The last I knew, the office had no way of making hard copies of past newspapers. Hope you have a good trip. I think you'll find the Ava folks very helpful. 3. Posted on: Douglas County, Missouri Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/Douglas/11657 Surname: ------------------------- I do quite a bit on Douglas County History research. A civil register of county officials shows H.H. Vicory as being elected as Sheriff on Nov. 5, 1878 and upon his death, was replaced by Sheriff H.P. Kelley on Apr. 4, 1879. This was one of the county's most violent and troublesome periods. You can look up references to his name on my personal free website at http://courses.smsu.edu/kwb237f/douglas. By the way, I've always wondered about the spelling. In Douglas county history citations, it has always be Vicory or Vickery, never Victory, as I recall.

Thank you for the additional Stacey information you've given. I'd like to correct the information regarding Jasper Newton and Margaret Gentry Stacey. The #1 child was not Jasper's child. John Allen Gentry b.Feb 7, 1872 Roy, Douglas Co., MO was a son of Margaret Nancy Gentry and John Gabriel Hartin who were not married. Margaret m. to Jasper Stacey a year later and John was raised by Margaret's mother, Elizabeth Anderson Rhodes Gentry Mathis, who was m. to James Mathis at the time. Elizabeth's photo is available on the Stone Co. MO website. John Gentry is found on the 1880 census living in the Mathis family as a ward. He ran away from home at the age of 16 to the Indian Territory, returning to marry neighbor Sarah Elizabeth Adams Sept 5, 1892 there in Roy. They are my grandparents. (The LDS Ancestral file is wrong regarding his parentage.) I have many family photos of the Stacey fam. that I would be glad to share for your book. Also, you and any other Stacey researchers should write to Carol Clouse, 23344 Alfalfa Road, Bend, OR 97701. She is not on the net. She has worked on this family for many years.
