He was united in marriage to Velma Virginia Lewis on Oct. 18, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Velma Fitzgerald of the home in Salem, [Dent County]; two sons, Gary Fitzgerald and wife, Carla of St. Louis, Robert Fitzgerald and wife Bettyejane of St. Louis; two brothers, Forest Fitzgerald of Hillsboro, Forbes Fitzgerald of Salem; five sisters, Ora Smith of Salem, Doris Miller of St. Louis, Ruth Siddens of St. Louis, Nadine Bunton of St. Louis, Pauline Neibor of St. Joe, Mich.; four grandchildren, Gary Fitzgerald Jr., Anne Fitzgerald, Bobbiann Fitzgerald, and Kelly Fitzgerald. He professed a faith in Christ and was baptized at Lesterville at the Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a member of the Gladden Empire Club and was a founding member of the 4X4 Explorers Club in Creve Coeur. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend and will be so sadly missed by his family. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Nov. 5, 1987, at 11 a.m. in the Spencer Chapel in Salem, with Rev. John Smith officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Terrall Siddens, Kenneth Siddens, Joe Hodges, Steve Davis, John Hodges and Willard Hodges. Special music was provided by John Casey accompanied by Catherine Wells. Interment was in the Empire Cemetery at Gladden. All arrangements were under the direction of the Spencer Funeral Home in Salem.
