Nelson GraveYard (Cool Springs Cemetery) on Meramec River. States: This is one of the earliset cemeteries located nearthe old Nelson Grist Mill, also known as Coll Spring Cemetery. This is located on the first farmto be cultivated in what is now Dent Co. George Cole came from St. Louis in 1827 and the 2nd owner of the land was Elisha Nelson, who operated the grist mill, the 3rd owner was Wilson Perry. On the Dent County map, it is nearthe Short Bend community, in the NE quadrant of the county. 2. Nelson Schoolyard Graveyard- on Devern Wisdom Farm at Howes Mill. States: This is one of the oldest burial sites around Howes Mill located near the old Nelson one room school. The plot has been long abandoned and is located on the original Oscar Mann farm. There are quite a number of lost and unknown graves. Of the Dent County map, it is south of Howes Mill, and east of Stone Hill; in the far eastern area of the county. Hope this helps.

    3. Any WOFFORD researchers out there? Just had a realization hit me like a ton of bricks. My grandfather was William Pinkney WOFFORD b. about 1888/89 in Dent Co. His father was Charles Pinkney WOFFORD. Although I knew this, it wasn't registering until today. My grandmother Myrtie Caroline (LARGENT) WOFFORD b. in Stewart Co., TN was William's second wife. My mother and her siblings had a half brother named Harold WOFFORD b. in MO. to William's first wife. It appears that William married his first wife while still in Dent Co. Anyone out there have any information on who William's first wife might have been? Thanks in advance for any info. Gary

They all list his place of birth as MO, but with no more specific place. In 1910 he was living in Dustin, Hughes County, Oklahoma. His oldest child Alice, is 4 years old. His wife, Elizabeth Burgan, was living in Indian Territory by 1900 near Eufaula (now McIntosh Co, OK.) Since their marriage should have been before statehood, it may be recorded in one of the three US Court Districts whose borders were near there, if it was recorded at all. Or they may have gone across the border to MO or AR to marry. In 1920 they were living in Canadian, Pittsburg Co, OK. According to the January 23, 1931 Custer Co, OK school census they were living in Stafford, near Alice's father in law Thomas C Krout. At this time Alice and Oscar Krout were living in Mobeetie, Wheeler Co,TX. Family lore has that they were still living in Oklahoma, and just visiting Alice's family in Mobeetie when her brother Clarence died. Their father died 4 days later. They were both buried at Mobeetie Cemetery. According to their Death Certificates, Clarence died of Lobar Pneumonia on Feb. 16, 1932, and on that same day William Coleman Watson began being treated for Influenza. None of the residence information is filled out on either form. An Influenza epidemic was front page news that week in Custer Co, OK. Please let me know if any of this rings a bell with you. Thank you! Chandra

    3. I may be making an quick trip to MO in the next couple of weeks, and would like to try to sneak away for a day for some research, but time will be extremely limited. So I'm looking for suggestions of the biggest bang for my time. I've been searching forever it seems for any info about my grandfather's parents. Since this isn't exactly a happy trip, it would be wonderful if I could find something to share with my mom and bring her spirits up - she's been ill. I'm looking for birth and/or death records 1880-1886, and even marriage records. I have looked at records on the Dent County web site, but can't find my relatives there. Also have had no luck with the death certificates from MO State Archives, so I'm looking for other places. I would be interested in newspapers too for Sligo and Salem area. Are they at the local library, or only at the MO State Archives? I've looked at 1880 census (LDS CD version) and haven't found these individuals on it yet either. Maybe by providing dates and info, someone can suggest a source I haven't thought of. Or since it's been a while since I posted all of the info, maybe someone else is researching one of these individuals too. I'd be happy to share the documentation I have with others on this line. William Oscar Goad (nickname Scott): born Sept. 1884 Sligo, Dent County, to Nancy Drummonds and Felix Goad; died Oct. 1962 in Elvins, St Francois County, buried Lane Cemetery. William's twin Goad: born Sept. 1884, died in 1884 or 1885, in Sligo Dent County. Sara Jane Deen Hampton (nickname Sadie): born Sept. 1882 in Salem, Dent County, to Nancy Drummonds and Jim Deen; died 1968 in Poplar Bluff, Butler County MO. Married Thomas Hampton. Ida Deen (unsure of exact info): Sarah's sister, probably born between 1880 and 1882 in Salem, Dent County; married George Austin, both killed in car accident in 1920's or 1930's. Nancy Angeline Drummonds: born 1864 in ARK, died 1909 in Poplar Bluff, Butler County MO. Married (1) Jim Deen prior to 1882 (Dent or Phelps County MO), had two children (Ida and Sarah), then he died. Married (2) Felix Goad (probably Dent County), had twins Sept. 1884 (William Oscar and unknown boy), then he died 1884 or 1885. Married (3) George Hampton about 1886, they remained married until her death. Nancy and George are on Butler County Census in 1900, with children William and Sarah. Other than this census record, I have found no documentation on Nancy Drummonds. Felix Goad: according to William's papers, his father was Felix Goad born in MO and died in 1885 or 1886 in Sligo. I have found absolutely no documentation on Felix. Thanks for your help!! Terry __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
