Surnames: Richardson, Thompson, Sweeney Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FKB.2ACE/1117.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: I have a Christopher Columbus Richardson born Oct 4 1898 in Belleview, Iron Co MO. He married Feb 13 1895 in Iron Co MO to Mary E. Sweeney. I found a record of John M. Swiney /Sweeney who married Dec 22 1878 in Iron Co MO to Mary Eliza Thompson b. abt 1860+ John & Mary E. Sweeney had a son James born abt 1881 in Reynolds Co MO In the 1900 Iron Co MO Census, there is this family listed: Richardson, Columbus (h) Mar 1862 38 m/6yr MO MO MO Mary E. (w) Apr 1866 34 m/6yr MO TN TN (2 children, 2 children alive) Birdie (d) Sep 1894 5 MO Arthur (s) Mar 1898 2 MO Sweeney, James W (ss) Apr 1881 19 MO My question: Is this Mary E. Listed above & married to Christopher C. Richardson the same Mary who was married to John Sweeney? Do you have any information on this? I am pretty sure the Richardson & Sweeney families are connected in some way) Some of the Sweeney family & my Richardson family wound up in Kemp, OK. My mom (Anna Richardson) knew the Sweeney family in Bryan Co OK where she was born. Her grandfather, Thomas Andrew Richardson was born in MO. (Probably Iron Co MO) Thanks Mary

    1. Ransom Copeland
    2. I am trying to find someone else also researching Ransom Copeland of Dent County. I am descended through his son Solomon Copeland who married Mary J. Butts in 1861 in Dent Co. Ransom was often called "Rance".....he fought in the Civil War for the Union......and was born 1822 possibly in Georgia or TN. Kathy

    3. Thank you to all who emailed back with suggestions.. I will go with Saxen Urope, as it looks like the place is spelled on the census. Trying to stay true to the actual writing... even when I know what the spelling should be. (putting notation on ones I have proof are wrong or am unsure of). I am about half way done (proofing while inputting). I lost about half of the volunteer work, as I had a computer crash, and thought by submitting the partial I was backed up already.. so hadn't saved a backup... bummer... but getting it done. For anyone who is serious about doing research, and knows they will be doing a lot of census research... volunteering to index the census for the genweb project is a great way to view different styles of handwriting... 3. When was Jack in Dent county? Dent county formed in 1851 from Crawford & Shannon counties. Crawford formed in 1829 from Gasconade Gasconade formed in 1820 from Franklin. Gasconade also gave up 36 sq miles to Crawford in 1869.. so from 1829-1869 Gasconade & Crawford and iffy boundaries. Franklin formed in 1818 from St. Louis, but boundaries were not firm until 1845. Shannon county formed in 1841 from Ripley & Washington counties Ripley county formed in 1833 from Wayne county. Washington formed in 1813 from Ste. Genevieve county. Wayne formed in 1818 from Cape Girardeau county. Also, when checking for Jack... don't overlook John or Jonathan. Jack is a common nickname for John. You information is probably out there ... you are just going to have to look for it. The county information above is from Handy Book for Genealogist's, Eighth edition. It's an older edition.. but I love it! That is where Green WOODS, described in the previously posted Julia Gass query, lived in 1860, according to the census. I suspect it was near the Phelps County line, since a post office in that place with the same name, Sarvis Spring, commenced service in 1866, which was the year the Dent County post office with that name was discontinued. I understand Green Woods, a Methodist preacher, was slain in the Civil War. Any information about his military service and death will be appreciated as well.
