Well, I got that reply back, and she started sending things, so I am sending more info along with pics. We talked openly about how neither one of us wants our info online so that ancestry can pick up and sell, so I feel better. She lives in Dallas, TX and rarely gets to Missouri. One researcher [with applause from a couple] said I really don't have a right to be hesitant.. that its really not my info, that my ancestors run the risk of being forgotten if I don't share everything everytime... Frankly, I really don't agree with the thought that its NOT my info, and I have no right to be hesitant about sharing everything I have. Alot of my info has personal family stories, as well as data and a multitude of pictures.. I've put it all together in several books, and since I have taken years of getting it, getting it organized, WITH DOCUMENTATION, my reputation as a thorough researcher is at risk if I share everything I have with no chance of developing a real relationship with the other researcher, not knowing yet how they are going to receive and what they are going to do with my info I send them after they get it. I feel that it IS my information that I HAVE gathered together. AND, My ancestors will never have to worry about being forgotten.... [at least the ones I know about], I've written several books, donated them to libraries and genealogical societies, and consistantly passed out the info and pics to close family members [uncles, aunts, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins]. When anyone in the 'close' family wants info, I freely give. But since I've never met some of the other researchers, I think the bottom line for me is going to be, "Develop a relationship with the other researcher before sending everything"... I've been burned too many times with others taking my info, adding their incorrect info, and then putting it online for all to see.... rootsweb/ancestry picks it up, and before you know it, its on a cd for sale... that's what happened to my DETHROW info... and frankly alot of my SCONCE info I find online has errors in it as well.... I just get SICK!! So, I'll continue being hesitant until I develop a sound relationship with the other researcher! Lanita
