I have a Mary Lillie Place born August 1883, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Sweat Place. On the 1900 census she's Lillie and on the 1910 she's Mary L. so she may well have gone by Lillie. I wonder if whoever filled out the death certificate got the information completely scrambled and it ended up with Mary as her mother's name? Francis's father was a William Place but one wouldn't think they'd confuse someone who was another generation back. I can't find either a Lillie or Mary Alexander in Nodaway or Daviess County on the 1920 census. Sheer speculation but at least Mary Lillie was the right age and she was a Place.
