Vanette, A man named J. W. Pilcher and his wife Julia are found in Kansas State Census of 1915 in Painterhood, Elk County. His age (54) may not match but her age (43) fits. Children are identified as Grace, age 15, and Lizzie, age 2. Your John W. Pilcher was in Summer Co., Kansas in 1880 so the Elk Co. family of 1915 may be yours. This may be the same couple found in Madison Twp., Grundy Co., Missouri in 1900, although the wife's (barely legible) name seems to be Jannie.
