I seem to have two Joseph O. Whitts both married to a Margaret. I have the Joseph Owen and Margaret A. that Jerry and Lanita wrote about, then this from the 1900 census; 1900 Federal Census, Gallatin City, Union Township, Daviess County, Missouri, 15 June, page 16B; 65 359 369 Whitt Joseph O Head W M Jany 1831 69 M 30 Kentucky Kentucky Kentucky Farmer 4 yes yes yes R F -------- Margaret A? Wife W F Mch 1854 46 M 30 6 5 Missouri Kentucky Kentucky --------- Harry J Son W M Jany 1881 19 S Missouri Kentucky Missouri Farm laborer 3 yes yes yes The ages and length of marriage are so far off I don't see how it could be the same people, although I don't have a census for 1900 for Joseph Owen Whitt and Margaret Ross. This is strange. I wonder if the census taker was on a real bender that day? I notice your info, Jerry, says Margaret was born in Gallatin and the 1870 census shows Missouri but her death certificate says Kentucky. Any ideas on that? The 1880 census shows Joseph married to an Emma which must also be Margaret, based on the 1910 census (keep reading). Her age is right compared to the 1870, and the 1910 census shows Joseph and Margaret both married twice and both for 43 years so one would assume that was to each other and that matches the 1866 date for their marriage in Daviess Co. So, were they each married to someone else between 1860 and 1866, and to whom? See next paragraph for probable child of Joseph born in 1870 . . . In 1910 it shows Margaret has had 6 children, 5 living. I only have three children for her and Joseph; Thomas Jefferson, William Seymor, and Martha J. There's a Mary age 8 in 1870. She would have been born before their marriage and Joseph would have been age 19, assuming she's a daughter and not some other relative. Are we having fun yet?
