I did not know that the historical newspapers were on MF in Columbia. Might check that avenue. Yes, the James H. Burress you found is my guy. I already have ordered and received the SS-5 and it does indeed say who his parents are. Except it is his say-so, only. Interestingly, this man was 11 years old when his parents divorced. The man I have tracked believing him to be the father of James H. Burress (William A. Burress) turns out to be William ALONZO Burress. However - and here's where the mystery continues - when James H. Burress filled out the SS-5 in December of 1936 (possibly 22 years after he last saw his father and 1 year after William ALONZO Burress died)he wrote William ALLISON Burress as his father's name. James also erred in the spelling of his mother's first and middle names (Rhoda he spelled as Roda and Catherine he spelled as Katherine). So - he may have been confused. I'm just "obsessed" enough to want to know for sure! :-) Laura
