Here is what I tried to attach earlier. This is a question and an answer posed on the Puget Sound Roots list. The bold type is my doing. John Chapman Austin, Texas ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The question---- I am wondering if there is a South Tacoma Cemetery...a Civil War >Vet...died > 1935-04-08, in Alameda County, CA. ...His name was William Marion > Bostoph, The answer---- I find a William M. "BostAph" in the 1930 census in San Leandro County, CA, age 85 (circa 1844/1845), born in Pennsylvania, married to Edith M, age 71, born in Canada. US Civil War Soldiers finds a William "Bastapp", also "Bostaff" in the 103rd Pennsylvania Infantry, Company F. Another database shows William "Bostaph", enlisted 7 Dec 1861 into Company F, of the 103rd PA Inf, at the age of 17 (born circa 1843/1844). A pension application was filed for William Bostaph on Feb 23, 1863, as invalid class. This person was in "F, 103 PA" This person was identified in a tree posting on Ancestry.com by a Roy Wensel wensel@alltel.net (email date of July 2002). William M. Bostaph was born on 9 March 1846 in Clarion Co, PA and died on 8 April 1935 in San Leandro, CA. There is a long letter written by William to his brother Henry Bostaph, at age 90. I won't include this letter. Data showed he married a Sarah Ann Jackson on 13 Feb 1866 in Daviess Co, Mo. They had a daughter Florence Bostaph (married an O.M. Davidson). He later married "Edith", no further information. Florence was found in the 1880 census, born about 1869. California Death Index: Edith Mary Bostaph, nee; Williams, born 4 July 1858 in Canada, mothers maiden name Sanders, died in Alameda County, 21 Mar 1943. (I had "thought" that perhaps Edith had moved to Washington and had the remains moved, but that doesn't fit. His daughter Florence "could" have moved both of their remains to Washington, but that doesn't really fit either for several reasons). I checked Internment.net and find a grave, but neither listed him. Cemetery Listing for Tacoma http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/washington/wa-pierce.htm shows a Cindy Wilder (email link) "adopted" the New and Old Tacoma Cemeteries. She might be able to help.
