There's a website called peoplefinders.com that shows a Harley B Booker was in Gallatin, MO. Unfortunately, this is a 'pay for details' site and there is no other information shown for free. No age or possible relatives shown. This site doesn't remove people when they're deceased so it could be one in the same Harley or a different one - but it does place a Harley Booker in Daviess County. Is Leroy Allen Booker one of Harley's children? There is a Leeroy A Booker (born CA & age 61) shown in several locations in TX on this same site. Do you have Harley's death certificate from Texas? Good Luck with your search. Linda S Auburn, CA

According to the Texas Death Index the only Harley Booker that died in Texas was in 1968 in Bexar County, probably San Antonio. It is not impossible that your Harley Booker died in Texas but it is unlikely. John Chapman Austin, Texas modavies-request@rootsweb.com wrote: Today's Topics: 1. If so, have you considered joining a DNA surname study? My husband recently sent for a Y-DNA37 marker DNA kit from Family Tree DNA to have his Y-chromosome DNA compared with other males in the SILVEY surname study. Unfortunately there are only two (2) other participants in this study at the present time so that is why I am trying to recruit more participants. By no means, am I endorsing Family Tree DNA, but through investigating other DNA companies for surname projects, I found that Family Tree DNA had a DNA surname project that most closely matched with our SYLVA surname. It is this researcher's speculation that our surname has been misspelled through the years and only DNA can positively determine this. A Surname Project traces members of a family who share a common surname. Since surnames are passed down from father to son (like the Y-chromosome), the test would be for males taking a Y-DNA test. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA because they acquire a new surname when they marry, so the tested individual must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA marker test. There are several tests available: Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, or Y-DNA67 If you are not familiar with how DNA works in genealogy, I would suggest that you visit Family Tree DNA's website at: http://www.familytreedna.com for more information. Now, I would like to share a little of our SYLVA family information: My husband's family is as follows: Father: Charles Marion Sylva, son of James Sylva and Amanda Barker. Charles was born Jan 12, 1912 in Lafayette County MO (Odessa) and died in Johnson County KS (Olathe). Mother: Charles married Nellie M. Barker, daughter of Lonnie Lee Barker and Hattie Irene Kimrey. Nellie was born Sept 2, 1921 in Vernon County MO, and died Jul 28, 1966, Wyandotte County KS. Grandfather: James Sylva, born in Lafayette County MO about 1879 and died Mar 31, 1938 in Johnson County MO (Warrensburg). Grandmother: James married Amanda (Mandy) Barker about 1905. James' siblings were: Cassie, Leroy (Roy), Rosa, Ernest, Novella and Lena Belle (who died at the age of 10 months). Great-Grandfather: Thomas W. Sylva, born about 1834 in KY (possibly Lewis/Mason county). He died Feb 17, 1894 Pittsburg KS. His first marriage was to Harriett Gash, who died in Bracken county KY giving birth to their first child (who also died). Harriett and child are buried in Bracken county KY near the town of Germantown. Great-Grandmother: Thomas' second marriage was to Sarah O'Bryant on July 12, 1859 in Fulton County IL (Lewistown). Their children were: Serepta (aka Sarah), Nathaniel T, Harriett, Amanda, Mary, Charles, Matilda, Caroline, James, Rachael, and Lucy. Thomas W. Sylva served in the Civil War as a Private in Company I, 51st Regiment, Illinois infantry. His widow Sarah received a Widow's Pension. (Probable) Great-Great Grandfather: Nathaniel (aka Nathan) Silvy (also spelled Silvey/Sylva in census records). From census records I have found I believe that Nathaniel was born between 1801 and 1810 in KY, (possibly in Lewis/Mason) county. Great-Great Grandmother: Nathaniel's wife's name was Rachael. I am not sure but an Internet message board gives her maiden name as CRAWFORD and marriage date of 1826 in Lewis county KY. Their children taken from 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records in Lewis and Mason county KY were as follows: James (born about 1829), Elizabeth (born about 1830), Aquilla (born about 1833), Thomas W. (born about 1834), Robert (born about 1836), David (born about 1837), Louisa (born about 1839), and Melville (aka Melvin) (born about 1845). All the children were born in KY. 1860/1870 census records for Clay county MO may indicate that Elizabeth (Silvy/Silvey) possibly married Thomas M. Gash. >From Thomas W. Sylva's Civil War Pension file, James Silvy/Silvey states that he was the brother of Thomas Sylva and that he (James) was married to Sarah Gash, the full sister of Harriett Gash, wife of Thomas Sylva. This researcher also believes that Thomas Gash, husband of Elizabeth Silvy/Silvey may have been the brother of Harriett Gash who was married to her brother Thomas, and Sarah Gash who was married to her brother James Silvy/Silvey. 1860/1870/1880 census records for Mason county KY may indicate that Louisa (Silvy/Silvey) possibly married Levi Drake. If any of you have connections to this family I would like to hear back from you. Especially if you are a direct male descendant of any of the following surnames: SILVY/SILVEY/SILVA/SYLVA/SYLVIA and would like to join in the DNA surname project. Thank you for your time. The August DCGS meeting will be Sat., Aug 25 at 1:00 PM... NOTICE TIME DIFFERENCE... at the Squrrel Jail in Gallatin. Our program will be presented by Miss Hazel Lee Planck, from Jamesport, who is a retired schoolteacher. She got her teaching career started by teaching in the country schools in the area, and can give the 1st hand experience on the importance and activities of the country schools in Daviess County. This will be a great program, she is a delightful person. So, if you are close enough, and can make it, you won't want to miss it. Here is what I tried to attach earlier. This is a question and an answer posed on the Puget Sound Roots list. The bold type is my doing. John Chapman Austin, Texas ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The question---- I am wondering if there is a South Tacoma Cemetery...a Civil War >Vet...died > 1935-04-08, in Alameda County, CA. ...His name was William Marion > Bostoph, The answer---- I find a William M. "BostAph" in the 1930 census in San Leandro County, CA, age 85 (circa 1844/1845), born in Pennsylvania, married to Edith M, age 71, born in Canada. US Civil War Soldiers finds a William "Bastapp", also "Bostaff" in the 103rd Pennsylvania Infantry, Company F. Another database shows William "Bostaph", enlisted 7 Dec 1861 into Company F, of the 103rd PA Inf, at the age of 17 (born circa 1843/1844). A pension application was filed for William Bostaph on Feb 23, 1863, as invalid class. This person was in "F, 103 PA" This person was identified in a tree posting on Ancestry.com by a Roy Wensel wensel@alltel.net (email date of July 2002). William M. Bostaph was born on 9 March 1846 in Clarion Co, PA and died on 8 April 1935 in San Leandro, CA. There is a long letter written by William to his brother Henry Bostaph, at age 90. I won't include this letter. Data showed he married a Sarah Ann Jackson on 13 Feb 1866 in Daviess Co, Mo. They had a daughter Florence Bostaph (married an O.M. Davidson). He later married "Edith", no further information. Florence was found in the 1880 census, born about 1869. California Death Index: Edith Mary Bostaph, nee; Williams, born 4 July 1858 in Canada, mothers maiden name Sanders, died in Alameda County, 21 Mar 1943. (I had "thought" that perhaps Edith had moved to Washington and had the remains moved, but that doesn't fit. His daughter Florence "could" have moved both of their remains to Washington, but that doesn't really fit either for several reasons). I checked Internment.net and find a grave, but neither listed him. Cemetery Listing for Tacoma http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/washington/wa-pierce.htm shows a Cindy Wilder (email link) "adopted" the New and Old Tacoma Cemeteries. She might be able to help. Hi Lanita, Nancy Offield (did I spell that correctly?) as well as Leon Kearns, have helped me get set up with a gmail account for our personal correspondence (yours and mine). I have sent them each messages with my new address and asked them to respond. This is to make sure everything works as it should, before I give you the new address. Now, here I am at 16 Aug., that date I set for myself to have Vol 8 of Daviess Diggins' ready. Well, I am not sure I will have it ready today, but at least I will be putting in a more focused effort to get it ready. I will keep you posted on my progress. Charles
I received this attachment thru another Roots list and am forwarding it because there is a Daviess Co. connection. John Chapman Austin, Texas Note: forwarded message attached.
Nancy Thanks for the suggestion to have a Gmail account on Google between Lanita and myself, relative to personal DCGS communications. Could we include Lois in on that also? Next question; Can you "talk us through getting it set up and working out the bugs?" I do not want to take advantage of your kindness, but since you want to help, I would like to take you up on your generosity. Charles ......................... Charles, I was getting ready to send you the invite for a Gmail account and see that Leon has already done so. So, here is the website you need to go to and get the directions from there, It is very simple to do, and if you need further help just let me know, or you can write me privately if you like. This way, Lanita and Lois could also get an account and you could all correspond through those private accounts. In fact, all of you don't even need to acquire and account, you could get one and then the others just write to you in the normal way using your new address.
