    2. Since we're on the subject of pictures and I probably won't be able to help out in taking ones of Daviess County, at least not for a while, if there's anyone who would like pictures from Boone or Jackson Counties in MO, please email me privately and I'll try to deliver. _VanetteHobbs@aol.com_ (mailto:VanetteHobbs@aol.com) Vanette Columbia, MO ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    2. Doris Forsyth
    3. If the offer to take pictures of particular places or things in Davies County is still available, I have a request. I've been to Davies County, but there was so much to research there, and to see, that it wasn't possible to do it all. Some of my ancestors were born near Coffey and I did not get any pictures there. I'd like a picture of any building or place that would let me add it to my Reed-Yost collection. This could be digital or a photo to snail mail. I'll be glad to pay any expense for this. I do have some good pictures of the only 2 story log cabin built in Davies County by my ancestor, William Yost, north of Pattonsburg. The next Halloween after we were there, the cabin was burned by those who thought it would be fun to do and to watch, so glad I got pictures. Thanks for providing an opportunity to ask for pictures in Davies County. Doris Reed Forsyth

Lanita When I was there the end of March, my non-genealogist friend wondered what all the small stray pieces of rock were that she saw lying around. I was so busy taking photos I hadn't paid attention. As I am a geologist, it was pretty embarrassing not to have noticed them first! They were most noticeable on the side toward the quarry but it was quite obvious where they had come from. We commented that it must be a nightmare for whoever mows the grass. Most likely the caretakers had to pick them up before mowing. I just now looked at some of the photos I took and am certain it hadn't been mowed yet. The grass is about half green, half brown and a bit shaggy. There are three small stray pieces of rock in the photo of Carrie Culver's stone. 3. My Brown family of Daviess ( & Harrison) County were the Quakers from Bucks Co., Penna, Frederick Co., VA, Surry Co., NC, Preble Co., Ohio, Henry Co. Ind, -- Missouri and beyond. They followed the Quaker migration from Pa, to Va to NC to Ohio, to Indiana. They seem to have left the Quaker faith after moving to Missouri. Moses & Elizabeth (Hadley) Brown and most of their families came to Daviess county from Henry Co., Indiana in 1839 in a wagon train consisting of the Brown and Peter Dowell families. 2. In addition to the great suggestions of others I'll add my two cents' worth. I have a couple of not-so-good pics of the courthouse; would like to see better ones; also there surely are some historical ones of it. If any of the old homesteads are halfway presentable, especially if someone knows what family names are/were connected with them, those would be great! How about a pic from McCrary Cemetery looking down into the quarry whose blasting periodically flings rocks up into the cemetery? Now that would be an interesting piece of photojournalism. I wish I lived closer. Taking photos is my second-favorite endeavor, after genealogy. Vanette ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    2. I HAVE been there, but, unfortunately, just before the last remaining old block in Pattonsburg was razed due to repeated flooding. I got to see the block they used in "Ride with the Devil" as a stand-in for Lawrence, KS during the filming of the Lawrence massacre, but none of the buildings they had already town down, of course. I'd love to see pix from the 19th century that show the town as a whole. Anything like that available to post? Judith Brega McMahon (Chiles, Enyart, Kidwell)
