    1. [MODAVIES] Jasper GALPIN and wife Perlina BENNETT
    2. Hi, everyone, I'm seeking info mostly on Perlina; looked at her name today and realized I know nothing about her, not even her approximate birth year. I have Jasper Galpin, s/o John and Rebecca PLACE GALPIN, marrying Perlina BENNETT in Daviess Co. on 20 Sept, 1866. I have five children for them, Julia b. abt. 1864 ( supposedly married Jonathan Weston PILCHER - yes, birth date is before marriage of parents but may well be wrong). Mary Jane b. abt 1866 m. Pete HARLOW Isaac Newton b. 1868 m. Elnora E. "Nora" Worley (his death cert is online - Ripley Co. MO) Elisa b. abt 1870, nothing further on her James Arthur b. August 22, 1874 d. 1943, m. Bessie Gertrude Jones -- have good to excellent info on them and descendants & on Bessie's ancestors. (Glad to share of course if anyone wants it). Much of the above, except for James Arthur, came from a Harold Ward; _haroldw1@juno.com_ (mailto:haroldw1@juno.com) ; Family Tree on Rootsweb.com. I think most events were in Daviess Co. I have Jasper on censuses in 1860 & 1880, both Daviess Co.; and 1910 when he is in the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Leavenworth, KS. I can't find him, Perlina, or any of the kids in 1870 anywhere (have searched using given names only also), and I don't have Perlina on ANY census. I show her born in MO only because of censuses of her children where they show "mother born in MO." I almost wonder if she existed at all! In 1880 Jasper is living with brother Newton, shown as "W" -- assume widowed though they usually write "Wd" and none of the children are with him. There is a divorce filed by Jasper Galpin in 1886 in Daviess Co.; from Paulina (sic) but it does not say whether it was granted. This is a mess. Can anyone help clear it up? I see a few places where I need to check more census records and MO death certificates now that so many more are online but I'm sure I'll need more help than that. Thanks in advance for anything at all! Vanette **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008. (http://citysbest.aol.com?ncid=aolacg00050000000102)

    3. Just a reminder that household Membership Dues of $20 are due this month for membership to the Daviess County Genealogical Society... The DCGS are very busy preserving the records of all of Daviess County, the latest editions are newspapers for Gallatin Democrat and Gallatin North Missourian, dating back to 1901. These are being placed in our resource center even as we speak, and some items from them will be put in our newsletter this year. Members receive added bonuses, and are the only ones who receive the newsletter, and are allowed free lookups. Because of your help, we were able to grow the center, adding many many old school record books, History Books from surrounding counties, all census up to 1920, obituaries for Jamesport and Gallatin dating back to 1920, and many many other documents. While we recognize that money is short, with the price of gas, your faithfulness in maintaining your membership is an investment in the caretaking of Daviess County records. We cannot do it without you. Send to Daviess County Secretary/Treasurer at: Lois Carter loisc@northmo.net she will send you her personal address. If you are just joining, let me know, and I will send you copies of past newsletters via email. [all newsletters are via email to cut down on mailing expenses.] For more information, contact me.
