    3. Look at the 1880 Census which should list their ages. Also check the 1900 Census which will give the month and year of their births. 1. [MODAVIES] Jane Vanderpool/George Brown Marriage
    2. Jane Vanderpool and George Brown were married 28 September 1870 in Daviess County. The marriage record does not list their ages. Is there any other source that might have their ages at the time they married? They were married at the home of Levy (Levi?) Frazier. I am trying to determine if this is the Elizabeth Jane Vanderpool who was the widow of Bluford Vanderpool, and if this George Brown was the brother-in-law of Levy Frazier. If this is the right George, he is my direct ancestor by his 2nd marriage to Cordelia Mason. Bev Johnson Billings, MO **************Gas prices getting you down? 3. I saw your Iva Mae Brannen, also listed in Pattonsburg. I think it was a coincidence only. The age is off a couple of years, and the mother is wrong. I think the Daviess County clerk who wrote in the marriage book misunderstood Ivaree as Iva Mae. The document is clearly written and says Mrs. Dora Brinnen is Iva's mother, and she provided her permission for the marriage. Actually, it is Loyd Mallory and any possible children that I am tracking. He was my uncle, and any children would be first cousins. Regrettably, I can't locate Loyd and Iva in the 1930 census. When my mother was still alive, she told me that Loyd "just disappeared". So, I don't have much to work on. -----Original Message----- From: modavies-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:modavies-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Randall Higgins Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 5:49 PM To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com; modavies@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MODAVIES] Mallory-Brinnen marriage Pattonsburg 1920 shows James W. 1. Re: [MODAVIES] Eliza Jane 'Janie' Galpin
    2. Thanks so much for adding more information to what little I have. This is like looking for a bunch of needles in a haystack but at least I'm finding some of them! So this must be the person I have as Elisa Galpin? I wonder if for some reason Samuel ended up with the nickname Pete. That doesn't explain how the name Mary got interchanged with Eliza but stranger things have happened. The Kansas locations make sense. The youngest child, James Arthur, was in Coffeyville for a while which is also in Montgomery County. They later moved to Kansas City, MO where he died in the county poorhouse. I just pulled up James' death certificate online and to my surprise, his father's name is shown as John, not Jasper! His mother's information is all "unknown" so no help there. Jasper had a brother named John. The death information was given by James' daughter. However, James' wife's father was also named John (Jones) so it's possible the daughter made a mistake and gave her maternal grandfather's name instead of her paternal grandfather's name. James' brother Isaac Newton Galpin's d.c. shows father as Jasper Galpin, mother as Palina/Polina Benett born in Harrison County, MO. This assumes that James really is Isaac's brother and not the son of a John Galpin. The informant for Isaac's d.c. is his wife. The Kansas locations still make sense even if Isaac and James were cousins instead of brothers. The further I go the worse it gets. I wonder how difficult it would be to get Jasper's death certificate from Kansas? On the other hand that may not be necessary. I had a wonderful experience at Fort Dodge getting records on some of my relatives who lived and died there. If the National Military Home at Leavenworth still exists or if their records are around somewhere they would probably have everything one could want in them. 3. Vanette, A man named J. W. Pilcher and his wife Julia are found in Kansas State Census of 1915 in Painterhood, Elk County. His age (54) may not match but her age (43) fits. Children are identified as Grace, age 15, and Lizzie, age 2. Your John W. Pilcher was in Summer Co., Kansas in 1880 so the Elk Co. family of 1915 may be yours. This may be the same couple found in Madison Twp., Grundy Co., Missouri in 1900, although the wife's (barely legible) name seems to be Jannie. 1. Re: [MODAVIES] Jasper GALPIN and wife Perlina BENNETT
    2. To Lanita and Lois -- Thanks for your replies. Ancestry would have pulled up Paulina for Perlina. In fact it shows a whole bunch of Galpins for say, the 1870 census in Daviess County, but not her, Jasper, or the kids. My biggest problem though -- I can't find her OR the kids with Jasper at all, not in 1870 or any other time. Neither do I find Julia or Mary Jane with their supposed husbands (Jonathan Weston Pilcher and Pete Harlow), or by their married names, and don't find Elisa at all. It's almost as if several people simply made up names to go with Jasper! Vanette **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife. City's Best 2008.
