    1. RE: [MODAVIES] Maple Grove Cemetery
    2. steve
    3. Reeta, There is no known "Maple Grove" cemetery in Daviess County. Three possible scenarios: (1) The most likely scenario is that Maple Grove is located outside of Daviess County. For example, there is a Maple Grove cemetery in Trenton, Grundy County (one of Daviess' eastern neighbors). (2) Maple Grove is a rare alternative name to a more common name of a cemetery in Daviess County. (3) A mistake was made in the source: for example the source meant to say "Union Grove" or "Pilot Grove" -- which are actual names of Daviess County Cemeteries. If you send me or the list the actual citation for "Maple Grove" and I will be happy to investigate. -- Steve Reid Daviess County Cemeteries & Genealogy http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sareid/ -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2004 5:47 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [MODAVIES] Maple Grove Cemetery Where is this cemetery located? William Henry Parker and wife Nancy lived in Daviess Co. Both died there as far as I know. William Henry died sometime before 1947. I have a picture of Nancy at the sale of his estate dated 1947. He probably died between 1945 and 1947. I have another picture of Nancy dated 1953 which would put her in her 90's. I have to assume she died shortly after this time. Can anyone help with a death index to locate the exact dates of death so I can get Death Certificates???

Samuel, born 20 June 1825§, OH, died, 13 June 1877, Daviess Co., MO. Elizabeth, born 1825§ William, born 1827§ James, born 1830§ According to the 1850 Census, SAMUEL BROWN, father of the 4-year old twins, JAMES and JOHN, was himself 24. He was listed on the same census page as Elizabeth Brown (age 55) and David Brown (age 31). It therefore seems likely that Edna Hammontree's Samuel is the son of Samuel C. Brown. The eldest of Samuel C. Brown's children, John A. Brown, was my G-G-Grandfather. He disappeared after the 1850 Census and legend has it that he went West in the Gold Rush to California and was never heard from again. Any evidence of this or an alternative story would be appreciated. There was a typhoid epidemic that hit Daviess Co in the 1848-50 period. That may be another explanation. I would be happy to share what I have with others researching this family.

    3. I've been working on the history of a great-granduncle, Marcellus Moss. He was born in Tennessee, the fifth son of Joshua and Jane (Houser) Moss, in 1825. They were on their way to Missouri from South Carolina. He was known in Mercer, Harrison and Daviess Counties at different times, and sometime in the 1860's or 1870's, went westward, and settled in Shasta County, California. He was married to Nancy Rogers, but in California, his wife's name was Talitia (spellings are difficult to make out on the 1880 and 1910 census pages), so Nancy probably died, either in Missouri, California or in between. I have accumulated a lot of information about his children, etc., and have visited his gravesite in a cemetery in Red Bluff, California. If anyone has information about him or his family, I'd appreciate knowing it, and would be interested in making contact with any descendants of his. If anyone is interested in a picture of the cemetery marker, I have a very good one which I would be glad to share. Thanks for any help, tidbits of data, family legends, etc. Margaret Udell --- Margaret Udell --- [email protected] --- EarthLink: The #1 provider of the Real Internet.
