Our Daviess Co names: McKIM, PIPER, RAMSBOTTOM, McCREARY (or McCRARY), BARCLAY, CHESTER (or CARTER), MOLSBERRY, SHARP. I am particularly interested in how John P SHARP is related. He is a grandson who lived with James McKIM and his wife Elizabeth in 1880 census. Age 6 and born in KS. Barbara Jameson [email protected]
I am researching the following names. They all were living in Daviess County at one time. I have most of the information from Daviess County, but would like to find information before these families arrived in Daviess County. Everly, Ford, Goodvin, Haines, Higgins, Jones, Nichols, Rogers, Terry, Thomas I have a copy of the 1882 History Book of Daviess County, also, the 1922 History Book of Daviess County. I can do a limited amount of lookups from these books. The only way I would be able to send the information would be to type the articles and send by e-mail, which would take a lot of time. Mary Bentley [email protected]
My Daviess County surnames: Morford, Boltz, Davis, Lile, Wertz, Burton, Grimes, Rader, Hobbs, Cox I'm looking for a James Davis that married Emma Alice Boltz sometime around 1880. Kids were Olive Myrtle and Grace P. Thanks for stirring things up Lanita. And thanks, Jim, for posting all this. Randy Morford

Remember, if you see a bio that you want, please do your homework and go to the website FIRST at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~modavies/daviess.htm to get the actual page number for your bio... I have tried to put the general pages that you would be searching, but the actual page with your name, is listed at the website. I will be happy to send to you in TIFF file, but i will need your page number. Will continue this bio info later. Lanita

pg 427 The census of 1870 was probably the worse attempt to get correct figures ever attempted in this or any other country. A majority of the canvassers were notoriously incompetent, while many added names to their lists that did not exist and may went so far as to guess at it and then render their bill for labor never performed. In all the statistics as well as in numbering the population, this fraud and incompetency existed. This matter was not carried to the counties having a small population, and therefore they are comparatively correct, though some showed less gain in population than was expected. It goes on to say that in many cases, the cities and towns were left out of the census, that the towns can only be guessed at... Gallatin had a population of 750 Jamesport 200 Pattonsburg 150 Salem 100 Civil Bend 100 Alta Vista 60-75 Victoria 60-75 Bancroft 60-75 Jameson and Winston had not then come into existence.
