    3. The early Arkansas records stored at the Powhatan Courthouse have been moved while the courthouse/museum is being renovated. Apparently, there has been a recommendation not to move them back - but to move them to an unprotected area. Read about it here: http://www.jonesborosun.com/story.asp?ID=10173 Parts of Missouri were a part of the Arkansas county in which the records are in danger of damage. Please contact the newspaper with your comments, as well as the Arkansas State Department here: Division of State Parks, Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism One Capitol Mall Little Rock, Arkansas 72201 1-888-287-2757 (V/TT) [email protected] Okay, you guys!! NOW is the time to hit the paper with comments! Pass this info around to the other mailing lists you are on, and let's see what we can accomplish!! If you have ancestors in Arkansas, you have a responsibility to your ancestors to voice your opposition on this!! If you have ancestors in Missouri, remember... Some of our area Missouri counties were FIRST a part of Lawrence Co., AR.... Let them see that they have opened a can of worms that will not go away until they do the right thing!! If Arkansas starts this, who's to say that Missouri or Daviess County won't be next!! Lanita

    2. Lanita Sconce Smith
    3. 10 THINGS MY DESCENDANTS WILL HAVE WANTED ME TO KNOW: 10. that future generations would count so heavily on census reporting to be factual 9. that handwritten diaries handed down to stable generation descendants are a godsend to historians, even as 'mundane' things as their daily life activities 8. that when pictures were taken, making sure that they were labeled on the back more than 'Sue's baby dau" 7. that there was the importance of saving letters that contained info about the family they received from others. 6. giving family history including those letters and diaries and pictures to the real caretakers of the family who cared about the family history and family history preservation. 5. the important of continuing the yearly family reunions, even if a few attended 4. the godsend of writing down the migrations of the history that I knew it to be. From where to where, who and why.... 3. the importance of writing down copies of the Bible Records notations and passing it along to many members of the family including connecting ones in whatever way, in case of fire, flood, or stupid direct descendants who would pitch the valuable info. 2. the godsend of writing down their own family history and diagrams the way they knew it to be including who fought in what war, and whether or not the family was cousins with whatever famous person [and perhaps how, if they were!]And while we're at it, making the notations of how the name was spelled. 1. to NEVER NEVER NEVER name a son or dau, the same as in the past if more than 2 times it already appears in the same generation, found in the same county, and state. HMMM, looks familiar, huh? Lanita

    3. Been searching for my ARNOLDs in the 1700s [William, of course, just like everybody else!!], and I've come up with these ideas that I wish my ancestors had known about the future generations yearnings: 10 THINGS I WISH MY ANCESTORS HAD KNOWN: 10. that future generations would count so heavily on census reporting to be factual 9. that handwritten diaries handed down to stable generation descendants are a godsend to historians, even as 'mundane' things as their daily life activities 8. that when pictures were taken, making sure that they were labeled on the back more than 'Sue's baby dau" 7. that there was the importance of saving letters that contained info about the family they received from others. 6. giving family history including those letters and diaries and pictures to the real caretakers of the family who cared about the family history and family history preservation. 5. the important of continuing the yearly family reunions, even if a few attended 4. the godsend of writing down the migrations of the history that I knew it to be. 1. Memorial Day
    2. Lanita Sconce Smith
    3. It's Wed., and about the time that some of us will be going to get flowers, or preparing to leave for a weekend of decorating graves. At least, I hope you still place flowers on those loved ones' graves during these days. It's been a tradition here, to buy a few extra $1 flowers to take with us to place on those 1 or 2 lonely looking graves in those cemeteries where we will be decorating our own loved one's resting places. We don't do it for recognition. We don't do it for attention. We don't do it for praise. We do it because it helps us help someone else who would have loved to have been there to do it for themselves but for whatever reason, couldn't. It makes us feel good, feel a little kinship with that family, and perhaps think that that person MIGHT have known our ancestor.. No big deal, but can be as meaningful to the giver as placing flowers on our own family's graves.. So, if you can spare a couple of dollars or more, consider getting a few extras for those lonely forgotten graves. Maybe one day, someone will look at your grave, and do the same... May we will never forget! Lanita in Daviess Co., MO

    3. In the book of Pattonsburg, 1877-1977, there are brief biographies of the family of James Bowman and Lewis H. Bowman. I will make copies of these if you would like them. Both men had 2 marriages. The one on Lewis Bowman was written by his daughter, Rhea Youtsey. Doris

    1. Newspaper - Obits - Paxton
    2. Leon O. Kearns
    3. I didn't thinkto check when I was in Daviess Co last week if the library has the newspaper on film. I am looking for obits on D.C. Paxton d. Dec 30 1904 and his wife C.J. Paxton d. Feb 1 1908. D.C. is listed as Doc C. in some documents and I think he has used a middle name of Cunningham. He and his wife are buried in the Hickory Creek Cem. He has some connection to my gggrandfather William Paxton whose burial place we have not located yet. Also missing is the burial place of my ggrandmother Mary (Paxton) Dawson. We have plans to come back to Daviess Co. later this summer and check out some other obscure cemeteries that a locate farmer has offered to help find. William owned land northeast of Jameson and that is where we are concentrating our effort. The land was in the NE area of East Grand River off route K near the three bridges. For those of you who plan on visiting Daviess Co I found the people at the library very helpful. The went out of their way to help me locate the Hickory Creek cemetery. I had been there once before but it had been several years ago. Leon RAOGK Volunteer.

Surnames: Jenkins / Wynn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EKB.2ACE/780 Message Board Post: David Newton Jenkins, my GGrandfather, was born July 1862 in Ray County according to his death certificate. His parent's names were John & Mary Jane (Boyers) Jenkins . David was married in Jameson, MO in October 1886 to Josephine Wynn (born in July 1867 in Daviess County), the daughter of John D. Wynn & Nancy Huntington. I cannot find any information on the Jenkins family prior to this marriage. David's brothers and sisters were Joseph, John W., Andrew, Ruth (married Russell Wilson), and Maggy Jenkins. I have an 1880 census record for Mary Ann, that indicated she was widowed, but I can't find any census records in Daviess and/or Ray counties for this family. Would like to find 1860 and 1870 records for John & Mary Ann Jenkins (or Jinkens). I have census records for 1900, 1910, & 1920 for David, Joseph and John W. Jenkins all in Daviess, Grand River Township, and the 1880 for David in Ray, County. Any information on the Jenkins family would be appreciated.

I am one, but don't live in that area of MO any more. I don't know the names you mentioned. One of the Davis lines that married Morgans was living in Daviess Co. in 1870 Benton twp. census. His name was Jonathan Davis from NC. age 55, wife Elizabeth (Farrows) age 44 KY, Green J. age 22 IN, Griffin age 17 IN, and Margaret age 13 IN. I'm sure there were other children, but this is not my line so my knowledge of this family is limited. I do have some more if you connect to this line. Jonathan and Elizabeth are buried in the Oakridge Cemetery, NW of new Pattonsburg in Daviess Co. MO along with my line of Morgans. Some of their desc. are buried there also. Chris Landes
