Central Daylight Time, lumann@yahoo.com writes: I am not descended from either the Whitt or the Place family Hi again, Neither am I, but my ex is semi-related to the Places through his maternal grandmother, Nellie Galpin. Nellie married her first cousin George Place, but they are cousins on his mother's side, not the Place line. Two of his great-grandmother's sisters married Places. No bloodlines but enough ties that it is almost the same! I trace his lines as avidly as I do my own. I claim it is for my children and grandchildren but to be honest I think it is mostly the thrill of the chase! On the other hand, I started tracing a friend's line here in Boone County and stumbled across a very distant connection with her through my Pike County, IL folks, so you never know . . . My ex and I are extremely distantly connected through the Marshes. From my notes I can tell that's where you and I were corresponding before; the Marsh-Love families. My FTM program tells me I am Pamela/Permelia's 3rd cousin 5x removed and her 6th cousin 4x removed. I'm not even going to try to follow that! I have gotten caught up in the whole Daviess County intermingling. I have similar interests in Bartholomew and Scott Counties, IN; Pike Co., IL; Lee Co., VA; and Osage Co., KS; also to a certain extent KC MO. We find these places where everyone seems to be related to everyone else either by blood or marriage and often both. My database is enormous and I just keep on . . . 3. Hi Again Vanette, How nice of you to remember that we are old e-mail friends. I had forgotten, but now I remember you. Thank you for the reminder. Yes, you are right. Chester Ollus is the husband of Zorz Sharp. He is also the son of Harley Vest Whitt and Clara Emeline Place. I am not descended from either the Whitt or the Place family, but I am related to them, so I find myself gathering information on these families as well as a lot of other ones that are somehow related to me. So my database just keeps on growing. Once you get hooked on this genealogy stuff it turns into a lifetime pass time. 2. Lu, hello! We corresponded 'way back, maybe 6-7 years ago when I was first starting to do genealogy. Good to hear from you again. I was still lost because I didn't have Ollus Whitt either so I did some checking -- is this the Lester Ollus whose parents are Harley V. Whitt and Clara E. Place? The time frame is right: Zora's stone shows 1915-1979 and the online info shows Ollus born about 1914. Thanks so much for the input. 3. Hello Vanette, I can give you a small amount of information on Zora Whitt. Zora Sharp was born in Daviess Co., MO. She was the daughter of Galen S. and Amanda E. Sharp. They are buried in the Brown Cem. Zora was married to Ollus Whitt and I believe he is still living. I know of several children that they had. Marilyn, Beverly Jean and Kathy. Also sons Norman, Allen and Loren Sisters and brothers were Susie, Josie, Dorothy, Lilly, Johnnie and Clay. Hope this info helps you to place her. 3. The cemetery is still being used for new burials, so the cd would be the complete list that we would use. I need to go back out there, but its been in the late 90s with the humidity awful lately. I also have been nursing my ill husband, so genealogy hasn't been at the fore front of my activity. Thanks for your generosity. Lanita

    3. Great! I need to go back there since I have found my McBRAYERs are buried there. It's hitting close to 100s [late 90s with humidity feeling it 100] so hopefully, we can get some pics taken soon. The Boy Scouts are busy cleaning up a couple of cemeteries which have been overgrown, so we will get pics asap. Lanita

    3. There is still time to get in on renewing or joining our Daviess County Genealogical Society at $20 per household. We depend upon your membership to grow a local society and resource center. If there is something that you need, as members, that is not being done or you have any suggestions to help those members living far off, please let us know. We are brand new at this, and want to help you find those ancestors you're searching for in Daviess County. Remember, if you are not a member, you won't get the newsletter that will have even more information in it not available to nonmembers. And, you won't find the info online. You will also pay the full price of a cemetery cd that will have all the pics of the stones in the particular cemetery[ies] you need. Lots of added benefits for being a member, so come and join this new endeavor as we try to help all researchers. I know my dad traveled all across North MO when he was in high school.
