I'm tracking down the history of one ancestor who worked on the Illinois Central in 1870s and 1880s. The official pension site most people send is worthless, unless your ancestor worked in the 1930s. The 19th century story is scattered or lost and is not covered by the official pension site. My g-grandfather Z. L. Slavens was involved in the 70 yrs RR "Nightmare" that Dallas Co. had to endure.
