Surnames and maiden names of my direct ancestors who lived in Dallas Co.: Swift Lopeman Green Rakestraw Stanley Willoughby Basham Stepp Galaspy (The Galaspys were actually Swift step-children) Hoover Williams Morgan Kilgore Tibbs All except Lopeman were very early settlers in the Dallas Co. area, arriving in the late 1830s (when Dallas was part of Polk Co.) or the 1840s. The Lopemans showed up about 1880. ---- An editorial comment ... For very large email lists I'm not a fan of roll calls because you get lots and lots of useless posts like "Smiths in Missouri", but this list is relatively small (only about 150 subscribers), we've never had a roll call before, and I think you all are about the nicest group of people I've seen on any RootsWeb list. My only complaint is that some of you are too darned quiet, so having this roll call has been good in getting people to speak up. However, I would encourage you all to post more often with substantial information and queries about your genealogical mysteries here on the MODALLAS list and in the Dallas Co. MOGenWeb message boards. You never know what little piece of info will connect with someone else, so the more posts the better. My policy is that posts about Dallas Co. history are perfectly OK too, because they shed light on the lives and times of our ancestors, and how they lived.
