    3. Hi folks, RootsWeb email list owners have a page where they can specify certain settings for the list they own. One of these settings is the number of "bounces" required before someone is automatically unsubscribed from the list. For MODALLAS-L I have this number set to 16, the maximum possible. This means that after the RootsWeb server fails to deliver 16 posts to you, you will be automatically unsubscribed. Sometimes this happens because the subscriber has changed email addresses and the old one is no longer valid, and it comes back "User unknown". Other times this happens because the subscriber has an ISP that sets a quota on the size of the email box, and it is full. So if you have this sort of service, remember that if you do not read your email, and your email box exceeds your quota, you are likely to be unsubscribed from RootsWeb email lists. Today, two people were unsub'ed from MODALLAS-L: phancock@oio.net and grandadnut@webtv.net If any of you know who these people are and you can contact them, please tell them what happened. thanks, -- Gary Swift

Don Smith's index is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~modallas/EDIDC_index.html I have found this book for sale through bibliofind.com and I know someone who has a box of copies, but they are in storage. When this person gets to them, she will offer them for sale. -- Gary Swift

I checked my database and did not have any marriage date or place. I did have Sarah WOLLARD buried in a different cemetery than the Wollard Cemetery so I rechecked and verified: Source: A Reading of Dallas County Missouri Cemeteries, Volume III, 1834 - 1977, compiled by Dallas County Historical Society: MOSES BENNETT CEMETERY BENNETT Moses 9 Apr 1813 - 30 Jan 1890 Sarah Wollard 2 Mar 1817 - 18 Jan 1899; wife of Moses Alfred J 18 May 1839 - 10 Sep 1856; son of M & S Mary D 3 Nov 1842 - 8 Sep 1856; dau Marget E 4 Jan 1851 - 27 Aug 1856; dau Lucia Ann 1846 - 1847; dau Sarah Wollard BENNETT's parents, Nathaniel WOLLARD and Margaret Hardison WOLLARD, are buried in the Wollard Cemetery. 3. I was cleaning out some old emails and found a request from Joyce Lesoing to Rick on 29 Nov regarding a marriage lookup for Sarah WOLLARD. I probably didn't have my family data with me at the time so I'm a little late. I have a Sarah WOLLARD who married Moses G BENNETT on the 25 Feb 1835 in Maury Co. Tennessee. They probably moved to Dallas County soon after that as Moses in listed as an early settler in "The Early Days in Dallas County." This Sarah WOLLARD was the daughter of Nathaniel WOLLARD and Margaret HARDISON and was born 2 MAR 1817 in Maury Co, TN and died 18 Jan 1899 in Dallas Co, MO. She is buried in the WOLLARD Cemetary. There are no GREEN or LOPEMAN surnames in the index. There is only one GREEN family listed in the 1860 Dallas Co. census. It is for J. M. GREEN, age 35, TN, and family. There are no LOPEMANs but there is one LOUFMAN, James E., age 25, Ky, physician, and wife. In the 1870 Dallas Co. census, there are no LOPEMAN but there are three LOAFMAN listings. There are six GREEN listings. Benton Township 10-10 150-150 GREEN Margaret 69 NC John 26 Il Farmer BURCH Luther 20 Mo That's the only Margaret GREEN that I saw in the 1870 census. Take care, Rick Gregg

    3. I have an old, not very good quality, photograph of my grandfather, Roma Gaunt, and Hosea Evans, born 21 May1892 and died Feb. 1978 in Dallas County, MO. Identification was made on the basis of a note on the back of the photo. I'm judging that the photo may have been made in the 1920's or 1930s. Can anyone tell me who Hosea Evans was and who his parents might have been? Thanks for any information anyone can provide. Sarah

Steve, See http://rosecity.net/tears/trail/map.html which shows the northern route following just south of present-day I-44. Present-day Dallas county was part of Polk Co. at this time, including the strip east of the panhandle that was given to Webster Co. in 1855. So, my reckoning is that the trail just missed the SE corner of Polk (now Dallas) county. Yes, some Cherokee families managed to "drop out" along the way, and many others died. I've read of mothers having to leave their dead frozen babies along the trail, because if they stopped to bury them, they would have frozen themselves. Your family story about the Sweeney (Sweaney) family adopting an orphaned Cherokee child has credence. -- Gary Swift
