Who put it together and can it be bought? Becky Hello Becky - The booklet is entitled "Death Notices from The Buffalo Reflex, Dallas County, MO, 1869-1885" by Larry A. Beach, Rt. 1 Box 370, Long Lane, MO 65590 (11-27-96). I bought mine last year from the Dallas County Historical Society in Buffalo. It is inexpensive (under $10 if I remember correctly). The booklet is not comprehensive by any stretch of the imagination. It only has about 150 names for the entire period. Also, the information is very limited. That being said, I am still glad I bought the book. I believe in rewarding and encouraging people to compile and publish such books. I live in Hawaii and obviously cannot get over to the Dallas County library too often to look it up for myself. There is also another booklet entitled "Dallas County Missouri Death Register 1883-1893" copied by Leni Howe. It is also available from the Dallas County Historical Society, P. O. Box 594, Buffalo, MO 65622. Don't forget to check out the Dallas County website maintained by Gary Swift. He has posted connections re: publications for Dallas County. Rick Gregg

Thank you very much Mr. Gregg. I have heard the names before but I can't place them in my family yet. I am sure they are somehow related though as living in that close proxemity of each other I would think they would have to be. I do appreciate you checking for me though. thanks again Betty McBee

As is stated in the booklet, death notices in 1800's newspapers did not give much info. They are NOT like obituaries printed today. There are no GARRISONs in the index. There are three REYNOLDS listed: Hannah (d. 08-09-1881); Lillie Adelia (d. 09-13-1879); Robert L., Jr. (08-16-1870). Rick Gregg

----- Original Message ----- From: Brenda Goldberg To: Frederick W. Gregg, Jr. Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2001 5:53 PM Subject: MCCALL, John (doctor) Dear Rick, Can you look up a possible burial record for Jane McCALL. You found her on the census with John McCALL in 1860 and 1870; however, in 1880 his wife is listed as Lydia (at least she was doing the housekeeping). So am thinking Jane may have passed away between 1870 and 1880, or they divorced late in life. Also interested in marriage record for John McCALL and Lydia. Again, since Jane was with John in 1870, the marriage had to be between 1870 and 1880. And finally, is there a burial record for John McCALL (doctor). On Dallas County Death register for 1883-1893 he is listed as the doctor for an individual who passed away on 2 Feb 1887 so he was alive at that point in time. My mother seems to think New Hope a likely place for him to be buried but she's never seen a stone there for him. Don't have a clue as to the maiden names of Jane and Lydia and thus far can't find any record of John McCALL in Arkansas, Tennessee or his birth state of South Carolina prior to his arrival in Missouri in time for the 1860 census. Hello Brenda - No, I can't help you, sorry. There are no public marriage records for Dallas Co., MO, before the fall of 1867. This is due to three courthouse fires in the 1860s which destroyed all previous records. Marriages before this time are usually found in family bibles or other writings kept by the family. I'll send a copy of this request to the Dallas Co. list. Perhaps another might be able to help. America and Norris Creek were first cousins. America was my great grandfather's (Samuel Radford) sister. Norris Creek's father was brother to America's father (Radford, killed by lightening at age 31). These members of the Creek family are not Indians ... the name Creek is one spelling of about 20-25 variations of a German name. I have more information about the Creek if you want it.
