Hi Polly.... Find one entry, in the DEATH REGISTER 1883-1893: BOX, Abner, male, age 49 yr, 1 mo, 15 da., married, born IN, in MO 26 yrs, died 22 Aug 1886, bowel impaction, Dr. Sater. Have you ever found that sometimes the BOX name is listed as BOGGS?, or the other way around.... Seems I ran into that once... could happen..who knows?....when you say them, they sound alike... DONA (POWELL) MADDUX Dona Elizabeth Maddux, 82, formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 19, 1985 in Dallas, Texas, where she had made her home for the past 10 years. Mrs. Maddux was born, November 19, 1902 in Buffalo, MO, to Arch and Fern (Skaggs) Powell. She grew up and attended school in Buffalo. On March 1, 1921 she married Ola Benton Maddux in Buffalo, and they moved to Coffeyville, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, her parents, three sisters and one brother. Survivors include a daughter, Wilma Margaret Young of Irving, texas; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In "Death Notices in The Buffalo Reflex, Dallas Co., MO 1878-1885" (compiled by Peggy Goertzen, 1988) I find "Miss Alice Cannon, who lives about 10 miles southwest of this place in Polk County, was a victim to the fire fiend on the 19th inst. while standing with her back toward the fire, . . . in an unguarded moment her skirts rested in the flames . . ."
