Hi...couldn't help "overhearing" the subject of why some of Dade Co. came West. My family came out West along with some of those people. A few headed north to the logging up in Oregon and Washington. Don't forget, there were plenty of jobs for loggers (up until just recently, actually, as history goes!). Then California, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington were booming and teeming with people. Some of my kin were housebuilders. If you want to go back a few years more, the silver mines of Nevada drew thousands of people to work them....and, of course, the gold mines in the Sacramento area on up to the north. There are still mines that could be worked, if they were larger, up in Shasta County which is up near the border of Calif.and Oregon. Barb By.
