Pam, Sinking Creek Cemetery is located about one and one-half mile east of Everton and about one-half mile south of U.S. Hwy. 160. The turn off from Hwy. 160 is NOT highway M. It is a rural farm road, that unfortunately I do not have the name for. If you are approaching from the east (Ash Grove) there is a sign that says "Sinking Creek Cemetery" with an arrow pointing south (left) at the intersection of the road you would need to turn on. This road is about two miles west of the Dade-Greene County line on Hwy. 160. If you are approaching from the west (Everton) the sign marking the turnoff is not visible because of trees. But, if you get to the intersection of Hwy. MM that goes to Lawrenceburg and Halltown you went too far east. Turn around and head back west and look for the cemetery turnoff sign on your right. I seem to recall a tall radio or cell-phone tower being just east of the road going to the cemetery, but I may be wrong about this. Once you get on the right road and headed south from Hwy. 160, you will travel about one-half mile south until you see another cemetery sign that points west. Make a right turn on this road and the cemetery entrance will be about 100 yards on your right. If you continue west on this same road it will take you into the south edge of Everton. I was just at this cemetery one week ago looking up gravesites for SULLIVAN, UNDERWOOD, and MOORE ancestors. Now I am back home in Calif. I hope this helps you in reaching the cemetery. I had my in-laws with me giving me the directions as I drove and I made a few mental notes of the distances from my odometer. Therefore, my distance measurements may be off a little. Since you will be near Springfield, I would suggest that you first visit the Springfield-Greene County Regional Library. They have a book in their genealogy department that lists all of the tombstone inscriptions and their location for Sinking Creek Cemetery. The book also has a surname index. This will save you considerable time as the cemetery as a lot of gravestones. You will also find similar books for the other cemeteries of Dade County that were published by the Dade County Historical Society several years ago. The library is located about one-quarter mile south of the James River Parkway (U.S. Hwy. 60) at 4653 South Campbell. Make a right turn from Campbell at the first traffic signal south of Hwy. 60 and then a quick right on the frontage road that will take you up to the library parking lot. This library is a treasure-chest for information on most all of the counties in southwest Missouri. They also have all of the Missouri census microfilms, including 1930, plus the 1890 thru 1920 Soundex rolls for Missouri. Ken Soper Apple Valley, CA
