    3. Janet, I don't know about Missouri, but yes, in fact there were Quaker communities in Kansas, one of which was in my home town of Riverton and Lowell, Kansas, both located in the southeast corner of Kansas. It actually came to Lowell first, I think, then expanded to Riverton, which at that time went by the name of Vark. There was even a Quaker Academy in Lowell, and there still exists Friends Churchs in Riverton and Lowell. This is about 90 miles from Dade County, which might seem far for those times, but not totally out of reach. Just a thought. I think that a written history exists which will no doubt list the names of those families that help start the Academy, etc. You could find out more about that through the Cherokee County message/query boards or mailing lists or contact the genealogical societies in Galena or Columbus, Kansas. You might even query directly to the Friends Church in Lowell and ask their historian, I assume that they would have one, if the church had a directory of other Quaker Churches or communities in the area, etc. Bev Clark [email protected] wrote: > Hello Everyone, > > Lori ([email protected]) has passed to me a memoriam for Elizabeth Ruddick > Newkirk, wife of Abraham Taylor Newkirk.
