Well gang, the bold type (darker) didn't work, so look for the parenthesis. ----- Original Message ----- From: bruce james Sent: Friday, June 14, 2002 6:03 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MODADE] visiting Dade Co. Dorothy, This is an email that I received from you some time ago. Let's compare what you've given me both times (there is new information that I didn't know in this last email), and what I have from my family books. I will bold anything that I can prove (from personal recollection or otherwise noted) in BOLD. So pardon the caps all, I don't know how to go through this any other way. I also know of three or four others on this list following this specific line through David Marshall Courtney or one of his sibilings. After digging literally all day, I've found this in an old email (I knew I saved them for a reason) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SJQ.2ACIB/608 ~> it's a message from a Morgan Courtney posted on a board from back in January. It looks like great information, but also completely confuses me. Dorothy, I hope this winds up being one of those things that finally falls into place and we can connect. Okay, here it goes....LOL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OLD EMAIL Lon--you flatter me. I do have lot of info on Dade Co., and also on Courtneys. However, David Marshall Courtney is not in my line. I find him in the 1900 Dade co. C. Sac Twp., #193: Courtney, Sarah E. widow b. Feb 1867 Tn (I have 1857) ch: Thomas b. Oct 1880 Tn. Ida b. Jan 1882 Tn Marshall b. Mar 1885 Tn (I have Kylesford, TN) Maggie E. b. Sep 1887 Tn. (maggie married a Carlock) (I show that there are two more daughters. Lulu listed below and a Mabel who married a Mr. Cook) There was another daughter Lulu Courtney b. 8 Jul 1877 (Do you think Sarah had her when she was 10 yo or ??? If it was 1887 it would only be 3 mo's befor Maggie was born. See above, Sarah's birthday should be 1857) , Hawkins Co., Tn., d. 20 May 1944, g. Vaughn Cem., d/o of Jesse and Sarah, m. 9 Nov 1893 Arthur W. Grider Thomas K. Courtney (above) b. 20 Oct 1880, Carls Ford(Note how similar Carls Ford and Kylesford sound, possible mistake? I wonder which one isn't really a town), Tn., d. 8 Jun 1949, g. Wetzel Cem., s/o Jesse and Sarah, m. 11 Nov 1903, Dollie M. Vanzandt. (From Funeral Home Records) Sarah was Sarah Ellen Robinson married to Jesse Courtney., from Hawkins Co., Tn. I believe Jesse is from the Courtneys in Washington Co., Va., the same as my Courtneys but have been unable to find the connections. There were Courtneys that went to Hawkins Co., but that's as far as I got. My line is from Stephen Courtney who had a brother Jesse. Ella Annette Fruin b. 8 Apr 1883 Dade Co Mo., d. Dade Co 12 Feb 1951 was d/o Francis J. Fruin and Margaret L. Jeffreys, mar. Marshall Courtney. Info from Funeral Home Records. The Fruins married into my Dodd family. The Funeral Home Records give the following: 3 dau: Leila Newkirk,(This is my GGmother) Visalia, Ca; Margaret L. Jeffreys, Montalvo, Ca; Lora Lee Harris,(only child still living of Sarah and David) Grfd; Frances Gertrude b. 14 Aug 1908, d. 16 Jul 1909, 4 sons: Richard, Tulare, Ca; Clinton E. Frfd; Keet, Inglewood, Ca; Robert, Grfd. I don't have a whole lot documented on people born after 1880(I have most of David Marshall children documented well, let me know what you want), but do have the census to look in. I have a lot of the obits from the Greenfield paper from 1928 to 1943. Hope the above helps you, and don't hesitate to ask for info. Dorothy NEW EMAIL ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Friday, June 14, 2002 1:56 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MODADE] visiting Dade Co. Lori--I have been trying to trace this Jesse Courtney for quite some time. Would like your comments. My interest is the Courtneys of Washington Co., Va., a Jesse Courtney, This may be another Jesse, like a uncle (see link above) wife Katy Wiseman, moved from there to Hawkins Co., Tn. There I have lost them. This Jesse was a brother of Stephen Courtney, whose sons came to Dade co., and settled in North Twp. I think David Marshall (many seem to note him as only Marshall, however our family records have his first name being David) settled in South Greenfield. I would love to be able to connect these two families together. Now I have found the following info: David Jesse Courtney b. 24 Jul 1856 (I've only heard him referred to as Jesse, but this information came from this board, I have no basis for having it be one way or the other.), Hawkins Co. TN. married Sarah Ellen Robinson, b. 1858, Hawkins Co., Tn. David died shortly after 1880 (It has been passed from our family that there was some kind of abandonment here, but we haven't known how), and Sarah came to Dade co., where her father already lived, Powell Robinson and mother Mary Kyle. this info from: http://www.genealogy.com/genealogy/users/p/r/a/Steven-B-P Please let me hear from you. Thanks. Dorothy Dorothy, I think I've covered it all, but after spending all day trying to sort it out, I'm sure I've left off something. After a while it all seems to jumble together....lol. Anyway, I can't wait to hear what you think. Lori [email protected] ==== MODADE Mailing List ==== NO attachments to the entire list.
