My BIG thanks for the websites and info. I plan to use the site to reference other places in the area. I like to put such info in my notes in FTM, like how big it was at the birth of the person, and wanted to check out Dadeville (my birthplace) and was thrilled. I had searched (too quickly obviously) but only found old info. I was there last year, and since I was raised in a town about the same size in CA (and knew its population), and felt Greenfield was about the same size, But Greenfield felt smaller because a lot of the people technically in the city limits for address purposes live in the country area. I have one aunt and uncle and aunt in Greenfield city and did visit them. I figured 8,000 was about what was in the county. The site I found had records for "Greenfield city" and I knew it was only called Greenfield, but now believe the purpose was to differentiate because the "town people" and those not in town itself. But as I said the info was not current. Thanks for the confirmation of my memory. A little true story: About 50 years ago my father and two of his brothers and their families were travelling from where the siblings lived in Kansas to visit my grandparents in Greenfield (that address but country) and didn't want to arrive there hungry and have my grandmother cooking for the three carloads. They stopped at a little cafe, and the "men" went in. My dad ordered 20 hamburgers, then said to the brothers, "That's enough for me. What do you want?" Those in the cafe were shocked, but the brothers started laughing, knowing my dad was a big joker. Then everyone started laughing. Someone recognized them, etc. A story my dad told and enjoyed his whole life.
